I agree with what you said. Miller has not shown anything we have'nt seen before, from him. He is not a viable option at CB. As far as DE is concerned, IMO Ellis is, and has been over rated. His best years were when he had Abraham opposite him. We are in dyer need of help at the DE position. This is a glaring weakness that should have been addressed in the draft. The F/O did a poor job by letting this go. That position is our achilles heel. It could cost us, BIG TIME!
Ellis hasn't even played in the PS yet! When they tried to run to the side his backup was on they got stuffed last week. I assume Ellis is better than his backup.
De is very bad and also depth at all the other D-line positions as well. One injury and that is all she wrote for our defense.
I've seen Jenkins take care of the middle when it comes to the run, but its the off tackle runs I worry about. We better have the DEs to stop that.... or David Harris, he's healthy now.
It's so tough to tell during pre-season.... I think they might turn it up a notch in the next pre-season games... I'm expecting (hoping) to see a bit more pressure.
Very worried. It has looked like the same old garbage D we've seen before. Let's hope it's the preseason play-calling.
I'm more worried about Bob Sutton calling the plays for this Defense. The man has no aggressiveness when it comes to his playcalling, thats why when Mangini took over the D they got more sacks last year. FIRE BOB SUTTON
Tell me about it man. I wore my Kerry Rhodes jersey and a cap I had him sign last night when I was out shooting pool and 4 different people walked up to me and told me they were Jets fans. I told them I got Rhodes to sign my cap and they just kind of looked at me blankly, even when I turned around and showed them what jersey I was wearing... each and every one. Then I told them I had a new Favre jersey at home and they were like 'Yeah I'm more of a Favre fan than I am a Jets fan.' I don't like the idea of people jumping onto our bandwagon before we've even won a regular season game. As far as the defense goes, I do share a lot of concern about what I've seen so far. Jenkins does draw a lot of double teams but I have to wonder about how his new diet is affecting his endurance. After only a series and a half the pulled him for the rotation against Washington and the guy was huffing and puffing like it was the third quarter. I'm not as concerned about our secondary as I am about the D-line, but in the end the best secondary in the world will get exposed but a shoddy D-line. Hopefully it's not something that will extend too far into the regular season, because I am getting sick of slow starts from Mangini's defenses.
yep. i've been saying this since all of the Offseason acquisitions on D; it doesn't matter if our personnel improved because if the scheme and playcalling sucks and motivator sucks, then it won't matter how good the players are.
That's retarded. How the hell can someone say they are a fan of a team, then once a simple reference is made to that team, they then have to clarify that they only follow that team due to following one player's career, and failing to mention it initially. Next time, throw the cue ball at them.
He doesn't have to play in the pre season, for me to know that he's an average DE at best. The guy has been over rated his whole career.
Most consistent Jet who has done well in 3 different systems without losing a step and he's been overrated his whole career? Ok.
Oh, this D will be a good one. I have no idea why you're worried after 2 preseason games. We haven't even seen our best player in the front 7 yet and we've looked worlds better. Who's gonna wanna run up the middle with Jenkins clogging it up and Harris bodying anyone who thinks they have a shot? Honestly, I think we're going to really, really like this team. As a Jets fan I realize it's illegal to be optimistic, but we've got some fuckin players this year....
Because our defense has sucked steadily for most of this decade. I can't tell you how many times we all get up on third down to make noise, only to have the D give up the first down and everyone sits back down. We never stop anyone when we have to, we never get off the field until it's too late. It dates back to the beginning of Herm and until they show a sign that will be any different ever, a lot of us are going to be worried. Usually we give up large chunks of yards on the ground right up the middle, so the opponent controls the clock and the game.
.... Why do you people insist on living in the past? It's 2008 homie. Not every year before it. Plus, if you haven't noticed our HC/GM combo aren't dumb. Nor do they have the vaginas other Jets coaches have had...Not much bullshit has been tolerated here and discipline is step one towards success IMO.
I'm not living in the past but I haven't seen anything yet to change my mind, so what else is there to go on? The first D hasn't looked good at all, and under this staff they haven't looked good until November the first two years. I try to be optimistic too, but until we actually force a punt and not get driven back to our own goal line, I'm not sold on our defense.
How is it possible to be not sold if you haven't even seen them play for real? I mean...why be a fan if you're gonna assume your team will suck even *after* they improve the personnel? Maybe I'm just looking at it wrong.
