I know, I know - "It's only preseason" and week 1 is still over 2 weeks away. I meant to bring this up before and forgot, but now I'm watching the Jets/Skins game again. I noticed that Jenkins was sucking wind on the second defensive series and came of the game. When he came out, you could see a big change in the ground given up in the middle of our defense. I'm not trying to dis Pouha, but he's not Jenkins. A quick google search brought up a lot of questions about his endurance. I know he's lost a bunch of weight, but seeing him sucking wind so early in a preseason game makes me wonder if it's helped his endurance at all. Miami can still be hot and humid this time of year which won't help a 360 pound man with endurance issues. Ricky Williams is on record saying that the current Dolphins o-line is definitely the best fins o-line he has run behind. Granted the man may have trouble remembering last season let alone his entire fins career ... I've seen some of their pre-season action and the starting unit definitely drives the d-line back pretty good after the snap on run plays. I think Jenkins needs to be in this game (week 1) the majority of the time when the fins are running. If not our defense could be in for a long day. Jenkins endurance is definitely something to keep an eye on this Saturday. Go ahead and roast me now ... :finssuck:
I see no reason to roast you. A man that big has to spend a lot of energy when being blocked by 2 people at once. All the same, I'd rather have him in there every other series then not at all.
That's definitely a good point. Does anyone has any insight as to what percentage of plays guys like Wilfork, Williams, or Hampton play?
He's a two down player, and there is nothing wrong with that. You want a big NT, well this is what comes along with that.
I'm sure he'll be fine. These huge guys always look like they're about to die... I mean they do weight about 350.
I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot of 4-3 sets whenever Jenkins takes a breather. A front four of Ellis, Pouha, Coleman and Gholston with BT, Harris and Pace behind them doesn't look bad on paper. Perhaps this could be Gholston's role early in his Jets career just so that he gets in some PT. That being said, I still think and hope that Jenkins can get in better shape to anchor the Defense before Game 1.
They should've played Jenkins and more of these guys for longer...they've got to get used to play 4 quarters in the heat.
No he's not, Jenkins is a two-three down player. We are going to need him in there for more then two downs. He has a huge job taking up two offensive linemen when we rush the passer, not only when we stop the run. Look at Vince Wilfork, he's not a two down player. Kris is going to have to get in better shape, and I am sure the coaching staff is working on that.
jenkins is not even needed for our 5th-preseason game. he should be held out until week 2. as far as miami having the best ol ever, that puts them right up there with, well, the jets ol last year. nada. i hear miami is mounting a stick with a bong on top of ricky's helmet and spray painting a mary-jane leaf on the ass of the lead blocker. now THATS something to worry about.
You are totally right. Everybody is assuming that Miami is a walkover in week 1 and if we still can't figure out a way to stop the run or run the ball ourselves we will be in trouble. So far I haven't seen either and I hope that's only because we aren't trying.
Hopefully our offense can spend enough time on the field burning the clock and giving him the well deserved breaks he is going to need after shutting down the Miami offense!
Ha when I lived in Florida I was watching the blow holes play the Raiders in Sept in Miami @ 1PM. Naturally the Raiders were wearing there black unis cause the Dolphins were in white. CBS took a temperature reading of inside the 2 unis & the Raiders unis was 10 degrees hotter then the blw holes. You can bet the ranch that we will have to also wear our dark unis. I brought up this exact same stamia point when it was announced we would open down there. Hope for cloudy & even rainy weather. Sunny it will be a oven on the field if the temperature is typical Miami temperature for that time of the year.
Hahaha although I would hate it this place would be entertaining as hell with the doomsayers. Don would have an e-gasm.
Parcells has often been a miracle worker. He started with a great draft where he strengthened both of the lines. Then he added Chad to the offense. Pennington might not be able to throw it all over the field but he's a huge upgrade to what they had before at QB. At least their short passing game should be going pretty well. So I don't think the Dolphins will be expected to post another 1 or 2 win season. They will definitely surprise some teams this year. I just hope the Jets aren't one of them.
