I would not read too much into that. Betts is a good back in his own right. He had a poor season last year with a 3.6 YPC average (Portis wsa 3.9), but was at 4.7 the year before while racking up 1154 yards. The guy is a step down from portis for sure, but not a huge one.
Quote: "...Run game is still weak...because Jets' right side of OL has weak players. Woody should be the starting RG (not RT) & Jets' need a real RT. THey shoulda drafted one!!! Brandon Moore never will be more than he is. Is there a better option at RT on the team...I don't know at this time...but they need help there...." Did you notice how many carries that TJ was given? I think you should re-consider.
Quote: "...Brett Favre in a game that wasn't sold out. Where were all of the fans? 1/2 to 2/3 of that stadium was empty. I was spoiled as a Packer fan. They play against themselves in July and 70,000 people show up...." I could be mistaken of course, but I do think there are a few more things to do in (and just out of) NYC than there are ANYWHERE in Wisconsin in the second week of August...?
Quote: "...-Ratliff again looked very good...." I know -- he has such a great arm, and he NEVER takes his eyes off his intended receiver.....did you notice that -- the 3rd string DBs didn't.
Quote: "...I hope Clowney is ok..." This is still training camp and only the second pre-season game. I would like to point out that one Aaron Ross, a rookie CB for the NYGs, separated his shoulder late in the season last year. He just wrapped up the damned thing and kept on playing... and tackling. Clowney just has to catch the ball.
After rewatching the first quarter again I like the play of Mike Devito in place of Ellis last night. Stout at the point of attack, he held he gound well on all the running plays that came his way. Most of the first quarter yardage came over the right side of our D, or in other words at Coleman and Pace/Gholston. It would seem the both Pace and Gholston had trouble containing runs to thier side allowing for a couple of 10+ yard carries accounting for more than half of the skins yards. Several runs to the Left or center of our D went no where. Looks like something that needs to be worked on / adjusted in practice this week.
One guy I failed to mention which I ntocied watching some of the game again was Damien Woody. he was matched up 1 on 1 a few times w/ Jason taylor and Taylor didn't get a sniff at favre. That's a good sign.
The Skins were running behind their all-pro LT in the first quarter. it's hard to judge someone against that. But Pace did much better than VG, imo. Harris had that tentative, slow look in TC last year, too, but he was able to get it going when once he played in the PS games. VG missed some stuff in the spring, and he is definitely behind on the curve. i hope he can catch up ASAP. DeVito has done really well. I dont think Ellis will be quite in shape to play full shifts right away in the regular season, so I am expecting to see DeVito play in September, too.
Pace, for the most part, did very well and should be a great addition for us. I was paying attention to the big plays to see where the back was running through and both came over that same area. Once with Pace and once with VG in. I think we will be fine over time just need to work some things out is all.
I'm still flip-flopping on who will be a more valuable addition to the team, Favre or Jenkins, although the obvious nod right now goes to Favre. Jenkins is just an animal and I can't wait for the season to start, he is going to dominate that Miami O-line in week one.
