nice job GM. most posters here can rarely think past the next pre-season game, but every team has 'out year plans' similar to what you laid out. why do you think we have scouts working 365 days a year???? chris henry is a thug, but a talented thug who would give any qb a true deep target. favre has already said coles/croth are NOT typical deep threat targets. you would think this group would be smart enough to ask themselves one question: how would henry look lining up opposite randy moss? enough said. welcome to the group and remember, all sucessful GM's have thick skin.
first of all why wouldnt the bears draft a future qb instead of trading for our qb that obv isnt the answer at that point. Also, no way Tyson Jackson is avialiable in round 2 hes a top 20 pick
your forgetting one major guy in all of this. the true heir apparent to the qb position BRETT RATCLIFF fuck boller. i do love the ideas of henry and a-gb. i have always felt henry, with the right guidance, could be a truly great WR. as far as the draft stuff goes, those are some bold moves and predictions. nice to have you as a member an i look forward to more well thought out insight from you.
With plans that far in advance you really can't be pinning the plan on a specific outcome. There are 31 other teams making moves too, and one piece of your long plan gets removed the whole thing could spiral. A two year plan would have to be more generalized to cover for hold outs, discontent, coaching changes, trades, FA signings almost anything can change a piece and throw the whole thing out of whack.
Will the real GM please stand up? Poor GM, first he has to change his name from GreenMachine, because of the other Green_Machine. Now this.
Okay - to answer your questions: 1) Kyle Boller. A lot of you read the name Kyle Boller and dismissed my thread. Take a second to read what I WROTE about him. I said we will need an experienced vet as a back up for the long term - **not Boller being the QB heir**. I see Brett staying at most three years in New York but maybe even less. Once he leaves, take a look who we have on the roster. Brett Ratliff (played well in ONE PRESEASON game) and unheralded rookie Erik Ainge. I think Ratliff will make a nice backup in the NFL, but I also would not rely on him as of right now if we needed someone to step into a regular season game. If Ratliff progresses to become a solid QB, then we don't need to sign Boller necessarily. Let's just say Favre retires, again, after this season. Ratliff is the starter? I would rather have Boller in than Ratliff at this point, but if Ratliff proves himself, we still need an experienced BACKUP. next point 2) The trades. a) Musa Smith does not have tremendous value. However, the Broncos now have a great need for a short yardage back after losing Torain. The Broncos wouldn't lose a draft pick, they would just move down two rounds in the low rounds and pick up an experienced short yardage guy. I'm not saying the Broncos would definitely make this deal, but I think they might if the Jets proposed it, and I would push for it as the Jets GM. b) Chris Baker being our only all-around TE. Jason Pociask, who was injured all last season, is, in my opinion, a better player than Baker with a better attitude. Baker's measurables: 6'3, 258 lbs, 28 years old. Pociask's measurables: 6'3, 267, 25 years old. Pociask has been compared to Washington's great all-around TE Chris Cooley on numerous occasions. Oh, and about Baker being an all-around TE? Here is a scouting report done in him by a Jet scout last year: Scouting Report Assets: A fine athlete. Big, strong player with soft hands. Will make tough catches away from his body. Flaws: Doesn't possess great instincts when running routes. Doesn't play to his 40-time. Poor blocker. <--** And while Keller is undersized, he is only 10 lbs lighter and 1 inch sorter than Baker. I find Baker to be extremely expendable and his poor attitude to a reduced role in the offense only makes him more so. The Bengals need a receiving TE and that is what Baker is. c) Clemens and Smith to the Bears. I'm not saying Clemens is the answer for the Bears, he obviously isn't the answer here, but the Bears need new characters at QB and Clemens is an experienced vet at this point in his career. Also, for those of you who are trying to tell me I don't know real football, I will bet the house that I know more than you...(love). Just because I'm a newcomer to these boards does not mean I am a newcomer to football. How many of you have an internship with an NFL team lined up for next summer? Anyways, both Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton are going to be UFAs in 2009. Odds are only one will be resigned and the Bears would like to add another QB to compete with whoever is held over and the QB they drafted (Painter/Caldwell most likely). Please read what I write before judging me based on the names I post. The draft Jackson won't be a top 20 pick, and right now we are battling with opinions. But I'm pretty sure at the earlies he'll be drafted with the last picks of the first round like Lawrence Jackson was. The 2009 draft DE prospect include: Brian Orakpo, Greg Hardy, Michael Johnson, Matt Shaughnessy, George Selvie, Maurice Evans, and Greg Middleton - all of whom are rated higher by draft sites and college football analysts than Jackson. Unless you think 8 DEs will be drafted in the 1st round, I think its safe to say Jackson will be a 2nd rounder. FA acquisitions a) Chris Henry, as I have already stated, more than once, has gotten himself into trouble..repeatedly. Henry is young and is still capable of turning his career around with guidance, a tight leash, and a new city. New York probably isn't the easiest city to do this, but with the clean reputation of the Jets he should not be influenced to run into trouble with the law like he was in Cincy. Also, if the Jets don't pick him up, look for the Cowboys, Colts, Chargers....or the Pats to. Do you want to see Henry lining up next to Moss and across from Welker? I think Henry would add a true deep threat and a great talent to the Jets passing attack, not to mention a 6'4 red zone target. b) AG-B. All he has to do is add on some weight. He has the frame and the experience in the 3-4 defense. His career is still young and a year in the weight room and some added poundage could really turn this guy into a solid contributor, or at least solid backup if nothing more. I'm fine if you guys disagree with what I would do with the team - I opened the thread with "There are many ways to rebuild a franchise..." and then followed it with "Here is my take..." but if you do disagree, please make a thoughtful argument. Not: "This guy is NUTZ!" I might be 'nutz', but please tell me why so maybe in the future I can be...'normal'? This is just how I would do it as of right now. And if you have a big enough problem with Kyle Boller than substitute his name with one of the other 4 QBs I mentioned for that acquisition. Just trying to keep things interesing. Keep the comments coming.
i wouldnt mind biamila, but henry i dont know he has to show the nfl that he left the streets behind him.
I'm all with the foresight thing but, GM, I like the ideas about the future, & the need to keep our eyes on where the team might improve. But it might be a tiny, little, eensie weensie bit premature. I am looking forward to this season and we will have plenty of time between now and the draft to come up with impossible scenarios for trades and the draft. Well done if a little early. Thanx
...Jamie Harper, Clemson's "5 star super recruit" or whatever you called him is most likely going to play linebacker or fullback. I'm sure if he stays on offense he'll get the short yardage work and carries at the goalline, but he's not as dominant as you may think. ESPN has horrible recruiting rankings. Harper is 4-star FULLBACK on Rivals, and he's unlikely to contribute until he's in the Tigers' program for at least 2 or 3 years. If CJ Spiller STAYS, freshman running back Andre Ellington will likely split carries with him.
Jamie's Harper scouting profile courtesy of trusted Scout.com: http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=3013037 I think you might be thinking of someone else...
can this thread be moved back to the New York Jets forum..quite simply put there is a much greater flow of viewers there..and this is Jets related.. ?
I liked the Boller acquisition...he's a good guy...not super intelligent but not dumb either...really rushed and then fucked around with his whole career...definitely not a young QB I'd say "no" too. I wouldn't say no to Losman either, and I know that pisses off other Jets fan.
