Early Look: 2009's 3-4 Prospects

how high do you think tyson jackson will be drafted? I know its early but do you think hes a 1st round picK?

Maualuga becuase he is bigger and better against the run

Top 20 pick 3rd best De in the draft

 

Greg Hardy is a beast. He's a renaissance man, he can do everything. I would love for the JETS to get him. But at ILB, everyone is taking about Laurinaitis and Maualuga but they will be long gone when we pick but the sleeper pick is Brandon Spikes from Florida. The JETS will need a player at CB to go along side Revis and Rhodes in the secondary so a name I want to throw out there is CB DeAngelo Smith from Cincinnati. I can't wait for the college football season to start.

 

I think the Jets do need a cb alot but Malcolm Jenkins and Vontae Davis are the only ones who i am really impressed with. Victor Harris is nice isnt a shut down type

 

I'll be honest with you guys.. Jackson is a good prospect, but I am not a fan. Going into last year, I was expecting Jackson to come out earlier, so I payed close attention to him. I was not impressed. To have top Dlineman around you, including the best (Glenn Dorsey) there was no excuse for Jackson to play just average. He should have been dominant, and when I watched him there were many instances where I saw him get pushed backward. Probably one of the biggest weaknesses for a 3-4 end. I don't think hes strong enough to hold his own. I really like his size, but I just wasn't impressed last year. I will be keeping a close eye out again this year tho in hopes of seeing some improvement.

 

QFT. Jackson is getting alot of pre-season hype, but he sounds like a Marcus Spears clone.

Not a bad thing...Spears would probably be a good player in our D because he's good at anchoring and stopping the run...but I'm just not blown away with this guy enough to think "top 10 pick."

But he's got a whole season to play to prove me and many others wrong.

No Terrence Taylor love? I think he's got a shot to be a really good 3-4 NT.

I can't wait til Boo Robinson and Phillip Taylor come out though...

 

Yeah I mean I think coming into last season Jackson was heavily overshadowed by Dorsey as such a disruptive force, maybe it hurt his confidence. But I think that he could end up pulling an Ali Highsmith where he has a horrible combine/ pro day and was once considered a top pick but drops substantially. But for him it would be having another bad season

 

tyson jackson will prolly go top 15 at worst. hes a top DE prospect. had a statistical fall off this year pretty much due to the fact everyone ran away from him. lsu coaches have been quoted to say that themselves. the guys a monster and will be garnering alot of attention come next feb.

i would love to see this guy in green. dont think we'll be drafting high enough to get him though to be honest.

 

Dont most 34 teams have one excellent Ilb and one okay one... Ive never seen two all stars at ILB..... on a 3-4 team... surely we do better then drafting an ilb in the first round...

Me personally I want that Wr from maryland... I like it.....

 

What we do next year is VERY difficult to ascertain at this point. If Clemens struggles, we may need a Quarterback. If Coles goes down, or none of the WRs seem to distinguish themselves, that may emerge as a position of need.

No matter what, though, we are going to need a top-flight Cornerback and a good Defensive End. I'll admit that I'm not well versed in all of the prospects for next year (I usually gear up in the offseason) but names that I do know and like are:

Malcolm Jenkins out of Ohio State and Mike Mickens out of Cincy at the CB
Obviously Tyson Jackson from LSU, and Fili Moala from USC at DE

I think with our offensive line and RB/WR corps we'll have at the very least an average offense. However, our defense has a chance to be straight up nasty with guys like Harris, Revis, Rhodes, Gholston, Coleman, and Pace developing. If we can stop the run this year, adding to that secondary and getting depth on the line could put us at a whole other level

 

With all of the other DEs slated to come out next year, I think Jackson will be a 2nd rounder.

 

WR generally take a while to develop so I'd rather go for an impact player on D.

I drool over a combo of Harris and Maualuga at ILB.

 

im really hoping we get a 3-4 DE , whoever that may be.

 

That would be awsome, but i don?t think it would really in the best interrest of the Team.

In the 34, one Beast like Harris, and a solid Veteran make a good combination, there?s not really a need for two beasts lining up within 2 yards. I rather take a big, dominant DE or another top CB, that will improve the D much more than another great ILB, with that 1st rounder, that Maualuga will defintly be.

 

I know this thread is not necessarily directed towards our draft needs, but I certainly think that we don't need an OLB at this point. Maybe a late round pick for depth.

Certainly would like to see the Jets go for another MLB in the first round, next year (assuming we don't make the Superbowl ) Hopefully someone like Jasper Brinkley.

 

My guess is that Maualuga will go pretty high so the Jets won't get a shot at him.

If so, the guy I most like is DE Tyson Jackson. He's huge (6-foot-5, 290 pounds) and has played a lot for LSU. I think he'd be a great heir apparent for Ellis. We could use some youth and energy at DE.
