http://nyj.scout.com/2/778217.html Coles fires back at rude fan By Dan Leberfeld Posted Aug 11, 2008 It's no secret Jets receiver Laveranues Coles and the team's former quarterback, Chad Pennington, were extremely close. And it's no secret he hasn't taken Pennington's release well. So when a fan insulted Pennington during Tuesday's practice, Coles let the individual know exactly how he felt about his comment. After a deep pass down the left sideline to Coles, from Brett Favre, that was incomplete (pass interference on cornerback Darrelle Revis on the play), the receiver went over to the sideline to get some water. While standing by the water cooler, the fan yelled, "Chad could never throw it that far." Coles fired back, "F@*# you." Coles is so upset about Pennington's release, he has refused to do all interviews since Chad's departure.
Yeah but it was OK for him to leave chad when he got a better deal in Snyder town. This guys is one heck of a warrior on the field but Jesus keep ur mouth shut and reap the benefits of a man that can actually sling the ball to u on a rope in stride, rather than dump it off to u so u get clocked by a linebacker.
not good for Coles to fire back, but I can't blame him. Idiot fan probably enjoyed watching the playoffs when Chad was QB....actually no, he probably just became a fan last week when we got Favre. But Tuesday's practice? He must mean Monday...
Whatever. I have no problem with him speaking his mind. Don't try to antagonize him if you don't want him to talk back.
It wasn't very professional of Coles to do that but at the same time what other profession is there where you can stand there and get heckled by fans while you try to do your job?
Fans can be stupid. They figure because they are fans they have the right to say whatever they want or act anyway they want even in the stands without reprecussion. That simply is not true. They simply get away with it because there is no possible enforcement against it with so many people. He should be careful. Somebody might want to egg him on which is immature. With this Favre thing security should be beefed up anyway.
I'd say the fan is the bigger idiot. Coles is there doing his job, the fan isn't. You have the right to speak to someone while at your job, especially if they're giving you shit. Good for him.
you would think that, given the fact that Coles, and Pennington are such good friends, he would've learned a little something about being a "team" player. If anybody should realize football is a business, not just a sport, it's Laverneous"show me the $" Coles
this is ridiculous. Coles has to understand that brett gives the jets a much better chance to win. And, he won't be getting killed on anymore lob passes from noodle arm. He has to shut his mouth and play. First he complains about the training camp, and even after mangini eases up to make him happy he's still a problem.
That doesn't change the fact that his friend was just shipped out of town and someone is taunting him about it. What if your best friend at work got fired for someone who was better at his job and someone started taunting you about it? The fan deserved what they got.
It is a good thing Coles doesn't visit this board or he'd have to go house to house, Jay & Silent Bob style, and right some wrongs on behalf of his friends honor.
Coles likely has loyalty/abandonment issues given his early childhood, he's a messed up guy, so I give him a pass on this. But at some point he has to realize how good the Jets have been to him: -drafted him when many took a pass given his little shopping incident at Florida State -despite leaving us for more money, we traded back for him and signed him to an extension on top. -with two years remaining on his deal, we took the unprecedented step of guaranteeing his final 2 years at $11MM, despite the fact that he is slowing down and was injured for several games last year. Play ball Coles and realize we're doing what we need to put a champion team on the field, not to make sure your buddy is still near by.
