Anybody notice how ESPN's John Clayton has taken every opportunity afforded him to bash the Jets. I think I read about 3 in the first 48 hours commenting on how it was a bad move for Favre. How the Bucs are better. Blah blah blah.

I am going to see if I can get him and Salisbury to consent to a steel cage death match...

Figured I'd post the articles I was alluding to:
    History Against Jets
    Downer For Favre

He's probably my all-time least favorite ESPN commentator. Plus, he's the ugliest dude on the fucking planet.

Dude!!! Clayton is correct! From a singular, selfish, statisics perspective, Brett should have stayed in the NFC. Check the mathematics:

In the NFC, he wouldn't have to face the tough teams:
    1. New England Patriots
    2. Indianapolis Colts
    3. Jacksonville Jaguars
    4. San Diego Chargers
    5. Buffalo Bills
    6. Any other AFC team you might want to mention... Raiders, Titans, etc.

If Brett stayed in the NFC, he'd be facing easy competition like this:
    1. The New York Giants
    2. The Green Bay Packers
    3. The Dallas Cowboys
    4. The Washington Redskins
    5. Any other team you might wanna mention: The Eagles, Da Bears, The Vikings...

Why do you think Bret wanted to stay in his division with the Vikings and beat the Packers twice a year? That would have been SO EASY!!!

Here's the twist: Brett has joined a much improved team. The Jets added a lot of talent in the off-season and just needed a quality QB like Favre to take over. Yeah, I know a lot of know-nothings on this board have accused me of being a Patriots fan because when I first joined, I railed against the idiotic treatment of Pete Kendall last year and pointed out that even though the Jets spent a small fortune fixing last year's mistakes--that they still did not have a quality QB.

Well, I already ate my humble pie. IMHO, Favre will get the Jets (at least) into a playoff position (barring injuries, of course, which are aways the wild card in the NFL--why else do you think Herm Edwards went from being a playoff coach to an idiot in just a few plays?).

Anyhow, AGAIN... I am all for the way Tangini have been dealing with this new season. Hurray for shorter practices, yeah for the personnel moves, and a pat on the back for the way the Chris Baker situation has been going.

    GO JETS!

I agree with most of what you say, but including the Bills and Raiders as tough teams, I don't know about that. They will be alright, but no better than a lot of the mediocre NFC teams.

Maybe Clayton has some valid points, but I just get the feeling he is taking every opportunity to knock the Jets.

    Bad Move?

Anyone who thinks the Jets made a bad move getting Favre doesn't know alot about football. It was a great move, a no brainer no matter how it turns out. We might not win a championship with #4 behind center, but we're a helluva lot better team than we were with Pennington or Clemens at QB. If we win a championship we give up a #1. Who wouldn't give up a #1 for a ring? And if we go in the toilet we give up a 4th rounder. Not a huge loss. Good move and anyone who can't acknowledge that must really hate the Jets.

I totally hear what you are saying. And generally speaking, YES the AFC is far stronger than the NFC.

But please don't include the defending Superbowl Champions (Giants) or the most talented team on paper in the NFC who went 13-3 last year (Cowboys) as "easy competition" . . . It really hurts your credibility and detracts from your overall point about AFC supremacy.

Also, the packers were 13-3 last year. While I think some of that was a fluke and they won't be nearly as good without Favre, they also do not deserve to be labeled as "easy competition". Neither do the Eagles (my sleeper team in the NFC this year) or Vikings, for that matter. Get real.

You shouldn't be surprised. 9 out of 10 in the media hate the Jets, have always hated the Jets and always will hate the Jets. Don't let it bother you. They have never orgiven Namath and what he did to the old NFL. It may change after all the old fucks die out.

Didn't the Giants, Packers, Cowboys, and Redskins all go to the playoffs last season. The Bills are an alright team, but to put them as the class of the AFC is a joke to me. You had some good points, but make sure you get the facts straight before making an argument.

Like I pointed out earlier, he mentions the Raiders at the end, as if they are one of the better AFC teams. Hell, why not put the Dolphins in there too?

Hey Vince Young might actually throw more touchdowns than interceptions this year too. Barring injuries, I don't see why the Jets won't end up with a winning record. Maybe not a championship, but a winning record. Then again the Jets face the likes of the Raiders, Bills, and Dolphins. Insurmountable odds these teams are.
