Your take here is certainly plausible. Add in that Chad was always much better with a red shirt on than a game jersey.

While camp reports do not have Clemens sucking badly, we would have heard if he were leading the competition. Mangini and T may have been hoping that Clemens would win the comp going away, and that would have shut the Chad Fans enough to minimize displeasure from the fanbase, realistically a factor for any team. Well, if Clemens had of been doing that we would have heard about it. Instead it seems to have been more or less down the middle - not winning going away, but not sucking outright, either. Just progressing but not enough to outshine the Red Shirt Wonder.

I have speculated myself earlier today here that if nothing else the Favre move has given the FO cover to finally get rid of Chad. What is left up in the air beyond how much upside this will mean in terms of what Favre brings is the question where this leaves the assessment of Clemens, and beyond that whether to go high in the draft for Qb next year.

Can I say something completely cynical here?

This move smells like it was done to justify the PSLs.

I can see people lining up to pay the price now, no matter what.

You think people will pay more for what they percieve is a more entertaining and better team?

I bet they sell a ton of Brett Favre shirts on top of the PSL's.

Why would a Pats fan buy a Jets jersey?

Ha ha! You never learn, do ya?

How old are you anyhow? I figure you're about the same age I was when the Jets won the Super Bowl: 16.

Having Favre here will make for an exciting season, but lets not completely give up on Clemens. It took Favre 2 FULL seasons of playing very bad football before he showed any kind of glimmer...

The question in my mind is - if the NYJ PSL plan has not yet crystallized could the new interest and enthusiasm generated by Favre's acquistiion persuade the powers that be to go the same path as the Giants? If they do I am a cooked goose and my great seats become unaffordable. Section 227, Row 5 and other cognoscenti - is this pessimism unwarranted? Do you believe that their mind is already made up and this will have no impact or that this will embolden them to replicate the NYG plan?

Favre never played his rookie year in Atlanta, and he made the Pro Bowl his first two years in Green Bay.

That's just a point about Favre, not a knock on Clemens. :)

My buddy said, according to NYG2010.COM(I think), if the JETS follow suit with what the GIANTS are doing, my seats, not PSL'S, SEATS, in section 111 rows 23/24, will be $700.00 per ticket, per game!!!!:breakdance:
    i've got 4 seats, which means a $28,000 per season bill+ a $20,000(or more) per seat PSL!

The first post I could agree with you on.

Edit: Just so theres something to disagree on... ...the Jets were a significantly better team before Favre. Favre just kinda brings it all home.

Can we ban this guy already? Criticizing the loyalty of Jets fans is laughably bad.

    Ah, newbies

    Excellent point

The fact is, the organization wanted Clemens to show some progress and he didn't despite the overly optimistic wishes of many on the board.

Chad was handily beating Clemens in training camp- that's more of an insult to Clemens than a praise of Chad. Chad wasn't exactly setting the world on fire in TC... its just that Clemens sucked. If Clemens was winning the QB battle, this trade would not have been made.

Either way, as long as Kellen Clemens isn't the Jets QB, I'm happy. ABC- anybody but Clemens. Favre is a nice way to reach that goal. A season free of Happy Feet Clemens is a dream come true.

If Clemens was the future of this team he would have been the stater this year. Obviously the staff does not see anything from him. We will be drafting after favre.
