Back in 1993, the Kansas City Chiefs, figuring they just needed a better QB, brought in Joe Montana, the best to ever play the position. While Joe played well for two years, you know the result. And trust me, Brett Favre is no Joe Montana.

No, it's not a disaster!! Look at what Vinny brought to the Jets. We went from ignominy to respectability. We didn't win the Superbowl, but we made it to the AFC Championship game and shed the Bengals/Lions/Cardinals-esque gloom that had covered us for DECADES.

AND ONCE AGAIN!!!! MANY (IF NOT MOST) FIRST ROUND PICKS DON'T WORK OUT!!!! ESPECIALLY FOR THE GODDAMNED STUPID SHITTY JETS!!!

If we don't land Favre after this, it is either going to kill our team or benefit. If we dont land him, this could motivate Penny. However, it could tell our team that the staff has no confidence and our qbs. This could be bad

Brett Favre isnt coming back from a major back injury. Last I checked, Favre never gets injured. That in itself is a huge upgrade over our fragile QBs.

They made it to the AFC championship game the first year and the playoffs the second year. That would be awful for the Jets.

If Farve aint a Jet by tomorrow i don't want him at all period. This shit has been way to big of a distraction, while Farve might give us an extra win or two next season i'm not sure he is worth it in the long hall.

Montana got them to the AFC Championship game I believe.

That said, I think the Jets are nuts to bring in Favre. They've improved on the O-Line by a bunch. I think Pennington could run a nice controlled offense with a strong running game.

The defense looks to be pretty hardy this year too.

I guarantee Belichik and the Pats love the idea of Favre running the Jets offense. At this point in his career he's basically Drew bledsoe! The Pats have always had a tough time with Chad, so long as he doesn't have to try to stretch the field, he's had good success more often than not.

Aside from the fact that what Montana did with the Chiefs has absolutely no bearing on what Favre would do with the Jets, Montana also only played 1 game in the previous 2 seasons.

Favre played 34 games in the last 2 seasons putting up over 8000 yards and over 50 TD passes in the process. What other QB's have done that in the past 2 years you ask?
    Tom Brady
    Peyton Manning
    Drew Brees

Pennington has enough self motivation. That's not going to be the problem with him. The problem would be if he tries to force things (resulting in boneheaded INTs like we saw in 2007) because the coaching staff apparently doesn't have an abundance of confidence in him and Clemens would be waiting behind him.
I don't see this working in 2008 with Pennington and Clemens. I think the team has to acquire Favre or Garcia now.

It would be typical of the Jets to get neither.
The Buccaneers would be happy getting Favre.
The Packers would be sort-of happy.
Then there would be the Jets with their thumbs up their asses.

Do you guys think Favre can learn the Jets offense in 3 weeks? It took him 3 years to learn the Packers offense and that consisted of handing off and running around and tossing the ball 50 yards down field.

There's a reason McCarthy wants the young guy running his offense. Whenever the Packers played a good defense he reverted to bad Brett and began throwing ducks all over the place.

For what it's worth, Peter King's "reliable" sources say the Jets are offering a 3rd, that could become a 1st with team performance escalators. Supposedly that is much better than what the Bucs are offering.

I think if we can get Farve without giving up a first rder u have to do it. It helps the future and the present. Farve will allow the Jets to get to the playoffs and it will help the future because it will help Kellen pick his brain.

I was skeptical at the thought I would have been first to read it because I have pretty much given up on it.

At first I thought he wouldn't come, and now it's slowly getting to the point where it would be pointless to have him here unless he can study the playbook to no end and take 100 snaps an hour until the preseason's over.
