Yes, Monk made it. No arguing it now, its done. And I couldn't be happier for him. To all those (and you know who you are) that don't believe consistency over a very long time deserves to be acknowledged equally alongside extraordinary god-given talent as a HOF qualification...you've been proven wrong again :smile:
He has three Super Bowl rings, although he only played in two of the Redskins Super Bowl victories. He played in three Super Bowls (two wins and one loss). He only played in the regular season in 1982. He broke his foot in the regular season finale and missed all four postseason games.
Congrats to Art Monk! But what is with the thread title? A Washington Redskin went to the Hall of Fame Today.
Well hopefully in 3 years we'll be watching on TV or those of us lucky enough to be there in person will be watching Curtis Martin going into the HOF. It's a shame there is such a bias towards AFL/Jets players otherwise Winston Hill and Klecko would already be there. I'd imagine some of the older guys could give us a few more Titans/Jets pre-merger that belong in. Somebody needs to tell Canton it's the Pro Football Hall of Fame not the NFL Hall of Fame.
No he doesn't, Monk was a GOOD not great player who played a long time and was consistent. he does not belong in the HOF. The man played 15 full seasons and: -top 10 in recs only 4 times -top 10 in rec yds only 3 times -top 10 in TDs only once(tied for 9th) That's not a HOFer, he got in b/c of a media campaign just like Lynn Swann. I like Monk, as I like Swann, but neither belong.
Been proven wrong? B/c the Hall made ANOTHER mistake doesn't mean we have been proven wrong. The Hall is supposed to be for the best of the best not just for good players. Monk wasn'y even the best WR on his team most of his career, why isn't gfary Clark a HOfer since Monk is? Clark made more pro Bowl's(when they meant a litle more b/c the fans didn't vote), in 11 full years(only 9 starting) he was also top 10 in recs 4 times(he was top 10 36% of the time compared to 27% for Monk), he was top 10 in rec yds 5 times(2 more times than Monk in 4 less seasons) and he was top 10 in rec Tds 5 times(4 more times than Monk in 4 less seasons). Monk is in b/c of a media campaign and that's it. He did play in 3 SBs where he had 9 recs for 179s yds and ZERO TDs(2 of his SBs he had 1 rec each). In 2 SBs Clark had 10 recs for 169 yds and 2 TDs. Clark doesn't belong in the HOF and he was better than Monk so obviously Monk does not belong.
Consistency over a long period of time is rewarded. You keep getting paid as a football player instead of having to get a real job. Good over a long period doesn't ever equal great ever, it may be HOF worthy but it's not equal. 10,000 songs by the Rolling Stones aren't as great as 1 John Lennon song.
