Hey guys, just want to report back what happened at the scrimmage today. If anyone has any particular questions, feel free to ask.

It was a pretty fun day overall: 1050 ESPN radio was broadcasting live, and I actually talked to Jody Mac and won a free T-Shirt by answering 3 trivia questions (who led the Jets in interceptions last year, who led the Jets in receiving yards last year, who's the alltime leader in sacks)

    First some general notes:
The scrimmage was very realistic, they took full time outs on change of possessions, and piped in a lot of noise. However, there was no tackling, and any time a quarterback was so much as breathed on, they blew the play dead.

The distribution of teams wasn't even at all. Kellen Clemens worked with the second team offense (White team, who had the 1st team defense) and early on developed a nice rapport with Leon Washington, who took a shovel pass about 25 yards on the second play of the game. However, the Whites didn't score for a while, not due to Clemens, who had a lot of his passes dropped. On their second possession, Clemens threw a swing out to Washington on 3rd and 1 but he couldn't hold on for the first.

The Greens looked decent on offense, as they opened up the playbook a little more. At one point, Brad Smith took a reverse about 20 yards, which led to a Pennington to Cotchery touchdown on a beautiful fade throw which completely burned Justin Miller, for about 25 yards or so.

The teams traded 3 and outs, there were a few very nice punt returns though. Notably, Chansi Stuckey had a great one, for about 25 yards. Ben Graham's punting was very solid, but the coverage was a little shaky. Not their fault, though, because they can't really hit.

With about 6 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, they evacuated the fans from the bleachers because of lightning in the area. They continued to play, but nobody could really see what was going on because they had us sitting under the bleachers. They actually used that break, which lasted about half an hour, to be the halftime break. So 7-0 at the break.

I actually left because I figured it would take longer, and grabbed some Mickey D's, but missed the first half of the 3rd quarter. Sorry.

When I came back, I saw Nugent booting through a 45 yarder for the Green team, who now led 10-0.

Dustin Keller became Kellen Clemens go to guy in the second half, and he brought in everything. The biggest play of the game was a 55 yard bomb right down the seam that Keller caught before torching anyone chasing him.

The backup QBs played a few series and both looked pretty bad. Ratliff fumbled his first snap, but actually ran it for a nice gain, about 6 yards.

With the score at 10-7 nearing the end of the 4th quarter, the Green team had 1st and 10 inside their own 20. A first down would've iced the game, but the White defense forced a three and out. Darelle Revis had a great return for the White team to set the ball up at midfield but it was called back because of a holding penalty. So Kellen Clemens took the offense, and his first play was nullified by a holding penalty. 2nd down was an incompletion where Keller got held on to badly by Worrell and nothing was called. 3rd down was a dropped pass 25 yards downfield that was called back for holding, and 4th down was an incompletion.

There were a few 4th down chances: Kellen Clemens was 0-3, including the last one. He was 'sacked' early on, and had a miscommunication with David Clowney, who thought a curl route was a go. At one point, Pennington had 4th and 1, and emptied the backfield, only to see a timeout be called.

There were a lot of penalties, most of them in the 2nd half. The aforementioned holdings, and also a bunch of false starts.

Once again, if anyone wants something specific, please let me know.

did you notice Keller coming off the field limping after Worrell interfered with him? on the radio, they said they saw him get off the field quickly, but there was no more info ensuing that since it was the end of the game.

So the obvious: KC or CP had the better game?

hard to say because there numbers were similar and Clemens operated with many of the 2nd string Offensive Players. but you can clearly see that he opens up the field a lot more.

To NYJ2K08: Yes. Easy stuff. Also, 2 small hamburgers with ketchup and extra pickles, a small fries, and a medium vanilla milkshake.
To Football god: They were there, and I'm only 17, but they looked very young.

KC was better, playing with the second team. If I had to guess, I'd say he was probably about 11 for 21 with 3 or 4 drops.

Pennington was maybe 6 for 13.

Neither threw an interception, both, like I said, had a TD

Lowery was pretty good actually, in coverage. I specifically remember him breaking up a pass destined for Brad Smith.

Clowney was decent, made a catch or two, but nothing two memorable except for the 4th down miscommunication.

  13. I heard Gholston had a sack or 2 ? How did he look overall?

    Also how did Brick look?

    to the group:

is there anything to be read into cp playing with the first team and kc playing with the 2nd team? mangini puts a lot of time and effort into this 'game' so i would assume he would start the guy who's leading in the qb competition with the first team if only to 'confirm' what was panning out in practice. does this show mangini's hand just a bit?

The first team O-Line did well, considering how easy it was to get a sack. Gholston wasn't too remarkable, today.
