    this team is so fucked

giant holes in the lineup unaddressed at the trading deadline

giant holes in the bullpen aunaddressed at the trading deadline

so lets run the same guy out there for 2-3 innings every game

This is two games we lost when we were in a position to take the lead and failed....this and the game against the marlins when they busted it open in the 8th...

If the hill wasn't there a run would have scored on that hit.

Heilman is the real problem- not the hill.

If the hill wasn't there, the ball is caught.

Oh of course the bullpen is the problem, but this ballpark is a joke either way

The ball would've been caught Beltran clearly slowed up because of the hill. How many times have you seen a ball land over Beltran's head? The guy plays so deep a situation like that is really the only time you'll see a ball land behind him and not be a HR>

There was nobody worthwhile to acquire without getting rid of Fernando Martinez.

    There's nothing to whine about.

The Mets will probably pick up somebody before the 8/31 deadline.

I don't think he was going to catch it regardless.

Some piece of garbage like they currently have in the starting lineup. Manuel insists on batting trash in the 2 hole in the lineup and it may have cost them this game.

The Yankees and the DBacks both acquired quality bullpen arms before the deadline and didn't have to give up much to get it either, while Omar was sitting on his hands.

I don't see how he wouldn't have caught it. He puts those balls in his back pocket.

Now it being an absurd 434 to center field is retarded as well.

    The whole park is terrible.

There's no proof that Minaya didn't try to make a move.

They should bring up Jon Niese.

The only rumors the Mets were involved in were the Manny Ramirez stuff, which(suprise, suprise) Omar wanted to desperately get done but he got shot down by management.

Honestly, the Delgado and Tatis hot streaks couldn't have come at a worst time, they both OPS something absurd for July, like 1.200 and turn a bad lineup into one that looks pretty decent. Except that most likely neither of them, especially Tatis are going to hit anywhere close to that the rest of the way.

People forget that most days the Mets are still starting 3 out of Schneider, Chavez, Anderson, A Reyes, Easley and then you've got the pitchers spot to contend with. Throw in Beltran not being able to do anything but walk and even with those guys hot and Wright and Reyes you're not going to be scoring an overwhelming amount of runs.

I haven't even started on the pitching staff yet, which has 2 potential black holes in the rotation and the complete unreliability of anyone out of the bullpen except Wagner(for the most part). How can you act like you're a playoff contender and not do ANYTHING to try to improve one of the many holes on the team. I mean fuck, even adding a bench bat could provide some value as you're got stiffs like Nick Evans and Marlon Anderson getting AB's in high leverage situations.

Omar is just a terrible, terrible GM and the sooner he's out the door the happier I'll be.

I don't much like him either, as I've probably stated in these baseball threads plenty of times.

That said, I don't have a problem with what happened, or rather, what didn't happen this week. I didn't see many trades happen and I don't know that there was anything available that would have really helped the Mets, unless they were willing to part with Fernando Martinez. I think it would have been foolish to move Martinez.

They can acquire a bench guy or two to take over for Anderson at some point in August.

For the most part, the Mets will have to make do with what they have. The key is to suck less than the Phillies and Marlins.

Tough when you have a moron for a manager as well as a talent deficiency on the field. This is the guy that outmanaged Manuel tonight:

Of course, Manuel would probably agree with him, because that's the kind of smallball idiot he is. Biggest AB of the game and he leaves the no hit Endy Chavez in the game to hit against the Astros Show while Castro languishes on the bench. It's so maddening every time a situation like this comes up, because the only benefit of wasting Castro on the bench nearly every day is that it gives the Mets a legit PH threat. And yet he's never used. It really boggles the mind.

Yeah, I'm not watching any games for like a week and a half...if they're all like this, maybe that's not a bad thing. At least we didn't lose ground.

Fun fact, despite leading the league with 116 bases loaded ABs the Mets team OPS with the bases loaded this year is .547, good for 2nd worst in the majors with only the Brewers hitting worse. The league average is .730
