    Day 9: The morning after

The morning after what, I can't be sure at this point.
So anyway, tough room here as I see my failure to file a report on yesterday afternoon?s second practice went over like a you-know-what (censor alert) in an elevator. In retrospect, I should have written a sentence or two on the practice, but frequent readers of this blog ? and I know there?s a couple of you ? know that I sometimes have brevity issues. And I?m working on that.
    Really.
One practice today, at 1:30, which is closed to the public. However, will have a report (insert witticism of your choice here).
But Saturday's Green and White Practice at 1 p.m. at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium IS free and open to everyone. Remember to bring a non-perishable food item as well for the food drive that will benefit The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network).
And I neglected to mention this yesterday [just like the practice report, I know, I know]. The Jets waived linebacker Jerry Mackey, the Freeport High School and Syracuse graduate, and re-signed safety Nate Lyles, a rookie free agent from Virginia who was waived just before camp. Lyles is a good story; maybe things will go his way over the next couple weeks and he'll stick.
Finally, a poster alerted me to the fact there's a video of me answering Jets questions from fans on newsday.com's sports home page. Maybe there'll be some kind of social benefit to it, but I'm guessing not. Those examining the video closely, which I encourage you not to do, might notice I'm wearing a golf shirt with a U.S. Open logo on it. From Shinne**** Hills. In 2004.
I might need some new shirts.
Eric Mangini in the press room at 12:30 p.m.
UPDATE: In addition to the Mackey/Lyles roster move, Mangini just now told us that veteran safety Artrell Hawkins had "decided to move on to the next phase of his life," and retired. Mangini also said the Jets had signed running back (another one!) Rodney Kinlaw, a rookie from Penn State.
Mangini also, during his opening statement which means it was unprompted, heaped praise on second-year cornerback Darrelle Revis. I predicted Revis, during that live chat we did here before camp, would be a Pro-Bowler this season so I'm glad Mangini is coming around to my way of thinking (I joke, therefore I am).
"You never know what you're going to get from your freshman year to your sophomore year, especially if a guy's had a ton of success and Darrelle really did have a nice season last year for such a young guy," Mangini said. "He's responded in a way that as a coach you're always excited to see. He's taken this extra time that he didn't have last year (during Revis' contract dispute that kept him out of camp for 20 days) and taken to heart the concept of going out each day and working on something, some kind of weakness and getting that better."
Finally, Mangini said he's been pleased the last couple practices with Kellen Clemens, who did not throw any interceptions yesterday. Mangini compared the quarterback battle to a "horse race" that is in its early stages. I know this can inflame the passions here, which is not my intent. Just reporting what the man said...
    And now, out to practice.

Does anyone else think that Boland is trying to be too cute and witty when putting these articles together?

Yes I'd like more facts and less witty comments.

Two things that are good... KC might be coming around (I hope), and Revis is looking great.

Maybe he's looking to capture the hybrid metrosexual toughguy thing and grab all 11 fans of that type in the NYc area?

By the way I know I misspelled Clemens. Sorry, don't mean to bring back bad memories, but I can't edit it.. .

Abso-freaking-lutely. Just dish out the info and leave the self-depricating "humor(?)" alone.

But good to see that Clemens isn't folding up the brief case.

For what it's worthy, Boland's practice descriptions on his blog have been very thorough, I kind of like the guy's non-traditional approach. The worst blogger of the Jets beat writers is the dude from NY Post. He barely puts anything out there. If that's the straight to the point alternative, I'll take the Boland latter...

Are you talking about Can'O'Lardo? Why would that fat turd post anything on a free blog when he can sell that drivel to THE_STOOLSAVER's faithful subscribers? Be thankful you can't read his nonsense.

    I do.

In fact, he's downright irritating. Way too much fluff and self-adoration. The guy is in love with himself. You wouldn't mind that if his blogs had content, but they don't, and neither does he.

Is anyone else concerned that Mangini is comparing the qb competition to a horse race?

Well, they shoot horses, don't they? If Pennington gets one more injury...

that was half sarcastic, I'd prefer he compare it to a dog fight ...

Not really. He said horse race "in its early stages". A lot of times a horse can fall back early and win the race in the end. It happens quite often, actually.

Just as long as he doesn't compare one of Penny's blooper passes to a Comcast "Slowsky's Hide-and-Seek" turtle commercial.

Here is why there is a QB Competition:

    1. Kellen Clemens is not that good.

This is supposed to be his team now. Sadly, it is not working out.

Thus, Pennington will remain starter. I can't wait to watch the Browns game though.

Both should play a quarter atleast.

Why wait for the Browns? Head on out to the annual GREEN AND WHITE GAME! TOMORROW at 1:30 (I think.)

YES! I was thinking the same thing while reading it. I actually got tired of it and began to skip thru then luckily found the bolded part and just read that.
