Too bad he's going to be our starting QB huh? You don't seem to understand something, all people can do one these boards is post their opinion. In the end none of us make the damn decision. Your opinion is that CP sucks. That's fine and dandy, but you can't go around saying its a "fact" that he's not a starting NFL QB, because guess what!? He's our starting QB at this point!!
It might be fun to go back and start gathering up some of the comments here from all the geniuses who said he wasn't even going to be on the team by camp. I think it'll be pretty fucking funny on here if he wins the job, the whole board might crash down. Again.
I just don't understand how someone can watch him throw and have any other opinion. You ever watch the guy throw in practice? He lofts EVERYTHING. It's borderline ridiculous.
NFL coaching staffs have been watching him throw every practice for 9 seasons now and he's still around, making NFL starter's money and possibly starting another season as an NFL QB.
His arm, while never great, was alot stronger 5 years ago. I'm talking like the last couple of years.
wait a minute since when is Chad Pennington the starting QB of this team? When was it announced? What did I miss-some INTs in camp? Last time I checked Clemens was the starter...there may be a "competition" at camp but nothing has been decided
No one is the starter, or named starter yet... but based on camp reports to this point CP has been the clear frontrunner. Ratliff is taking some of Clemens reps too. I have nothing against Clemens, I really hope he matures into a good QB. But like repeated many times, its his job to lose and right now he's losing it. The point is that all this CP bashing and people saying CP isn't an "NFL caliber starting QB" is useless... because if things keep going like this, he's going to be our starter.

Ok I guess I'm really not explaining myself well enough in these posts...... I have nothing against Clemens, I'm not a huge CP fan. In fact, I think our team's QB options suck at this point. I'm also not Mangini, so I'm not going to waste time typing up "Why CP sucks" and "Why I'd rather see Clemens throwing INT's than seeing CP tossing 2 yard outs". I'm stating factual information... right now CP is the clear frontrunner for the starting job as noted by camp observers other than myself. I'm not saying this makes me happy, but I also realize its not like we have an option that is that much better. I'm going to be content with who Mangini + company pick as a starter, and hope for the best with our new O line and defense. That's it. I will also hope that if the QB situation does not improve this season, that we make it our primary focus next offseason/draft. My POINT, is that you saying Chad has a weak arm, really doesn't matter at all. My point is that people can call Chad a coward, or noodle arm, or say he does nothing but check down... but its pointless criticism in the end. Everyone repeats the same exact things, but in the END, it still looks like he'll be our starting QB at this point. And we can do nothing but DEAL with that fact.
I still haven't found the quote button Verde but to answer your last post all I can say is God I friggin HOPE not...I'd rather see Brett Ratliff starting over Pennington and I am serious when I say that-we KNOW what Chad can and can NOT do and so does NE and Buffalo and Parcells and every other coach with half a brain in his head...this is coming from a guy who stuck up for, rooted for and supported Chad ever since we drafted him....I've seen enough
And I don't know why I'm falling into this stupid argument, but I'm bored at work so whatever. Let me preface this with the fact that I am not a CP fan, I'm a Jets fan... So you believe every QB that has a good TD/INT ratio plays cowardly football... that INT's only occur if you throw the ball 15+ yards, and that the best QB's will make poor decisions and throw into coverage. Have you read any camp reports? Do you think its better that Clemens throws INTO coverage after a poor read, than Chad checking down or throwing the ball away? Do you think its better to have a strong arm with no accuracy as shown by KC so far in camp? Bah, I don't know why I bother. Mangini's #1 trait desired in a QB is efficiency. And CP is beating KC hands down in that category to this point. If you want to call an efficient QB a coward, or say its wrong for CP to not throw interceptions in a QB competition... well I'm confused as to how to even argue that point. If it continues this way, CP WILL BE THE STARTING QB. And you'll have to deal with "cowardly" football as you put it. Oh freakin well. :jets: EDIT: And that end result (CP starting) DOES NOT make me happy, but if he's the best QB we have, then obviously he's going to start, as sad as that is.
Ratliff and Ainge are two very good finds, IMO. They both look like they have most of the physical skills with which to proceed from here, but there is no way either of these two can run the complete NY Jets offense right now. Take the two-minute drills yesterday, for example. Pennington runs that with little or no sense of panic whatsoever. And the entire team feels that and rolls with it. It's clockwork... total precision, smooth as silk. He knows just when to spike it, when to call the time out, when to shovel it, then spike again to stop the clock. Try putting Ratliff in that situation and you'd realize the folly of the above statement. Our choices this year are Pennington or Clemens, not withstanding an almost Elvis-like Favre sighting at some point.
Dude, you're new here, don't bang your head against the wall. There's a lot of people here who would rather see a laser beam spiral right at the free safety than an accurate pass without the preferred "zip". Makes no sense to me either. Sometimes I think this board should be called browningnagle.com.
Not to try to put a positive spin on a mediocre camp from Clemens so far, but one of the huge problems with Pennington is that he couldn't get us into the endzone last year, which is something Clemens had a little more success with, and thus won more games. Clemens definitely needs to get a grip on the interceptions, but I have to imagine that if he manages to do so then he is at a bit of an advantage. Chad is a great fluid game manager, but he doesn't exactly ring anyone's bell in gametime.
You might want to look up the stats on that one. Clemens led us to something like 8 or 9 TD in about 80-something drives, somewhere in that range. But it wasn't really his fault, either. We couldn't get in the end zone last year because we had no running game, no FB and no short yardage game except for the QBs either sneaking or trying to fake the defense offsides. That's why Thomas Jones ran for one TD all year. If it was just Chad who couldn't lead us to TDs, we wouldn't have been scoring TDs all the other years he was in there when we went to the playoffs.
What I meant was that Clemens is more of a threat to punch one in, where as Pennington usually needs to fight for every last inch, or rely on his receivers to make outstanding plays. I actually think in that sense our WRs are very underrated. Clemens also didn't have the benefit of Coles most of the time he played, and to a lesser degree Cotchery, since they both were hurt by the time he took over.
No he is a moron because he is a moron, I can't stand it when people try to push their ideas like it is the "people's" ideas, and he does this garbage way too often.
I just don't get what you're basing that on. Inside the 20 you don't need to hurl it 50 yards, you need to be accurate and decisive, which are Chad's strengths. Like that little corner fade he always throws to Coles, for example. Not saying Clemens can't do it, but Chad has only thrown 1 or 2 red zone picks in his whole career.
