Considering a #3 guy is getting reps with the 1st team because he is doing so well, and the Head Coach took time out of his press conference to gush about his progress, I'd say this kid is making headway. I'm personally rooting for Ratliff, because I have no faith in the shit that's above him on the depth chart.
BINGO I not going to profess to be a Bret Ratliff expert. Truth be known I know almost nothing about him. The only thing I know, is last season Jetcane, in one of his great TC reports, wrote a few lines about him. To badly paraphrase, as I only read it once a year ago, He said " he happened to see a kid named Bret Ratliff in some QB drills, and the kid had a real live, and accurate arm, and he might be someone to keep an eye on" I never read another thing about the kid, but the few sentences twined my interest, so I kept an eye out for him in pre season games. I never saw him, because he never took a snap all pre season. I figured he was an early cut. Some how he made it to the final cut, and then the PS. That told me something. That the CS had seen something in him that they really liked, but knew there was no way he was going to make the roster. So they hid him. As NDmick said, he is now taking a few snaps with the first team. in a year where there is a QB competition for the starter, first string snaps are very hard to come by. Not only that NDmisk is also correct in that Mangini has gone out of his way to praise him. Which is very rare for Mangini. It is true that every year a TC darling pops up, and is gone opening day, but many of them have turned into excellent players. At this point in time, I see no reason Ratliff can't become one of them. Right now, if there were a depth chart, which there is, but we will never see it. I think Ratliff is #3. It would take very long odd, but I would take a bet, with the appropriate odds that Ratliff could be the #2 on opening day. Key words are "appropriate odds" To me this kid is of great interest, and I can't wait to see him in preseason games. Not only that, but think how cool the offense's nickname would be if Ratliff were to win the starting job. "The Rat Pack"
Nice offensive nickname. I'd buy a Ratliff jersey if he progresses into the starter. Maybe the Practice Squad to Starter QB is the next great thing for the Jets... here's to hoping he's the answer.
After we cut him, the Pats picked him up, Harris shreddes Brady and Rattliff becomes the next big thing at QB.
Last year Tui stood in the way of Ratliff becoming the #3- but it is understandable that the team wouldnt want a totally green rook as the emergency QB if something happened to #1 and #2. This year he could be the 3, and perhaps Ainge goes to the PS. But I havent watched any tc yet, so I am not in any position to judge how he has improved, or if they are actually grooming him for something. He did run a pro set offense at utah, has a good arm and decent size, but his intangibles havent been on display yet.
