OK, we´re starting a Keeperleague, i got the #2 pick. I expect the #1 to pick AD. This leaves me with LT, but i´m not so sure how much mileage LT has left. In a Seasonal draft, LT would be my #1 overall, but sice thise is the start of a Keeperleague, i´m thinking about Jax there, or would you include someone else in your thoughts there? Thoughts?
In the early rounds, pretend it is not a keeper league. After all, you do want to be competitive every year, right? In the first few rounds, pick the best player for RIGHT NOW. If you want to make picks with 2010, 2011, and 2012 in mind, do so later in the draft.
I don't necessarily agree. It could sway the difference in certain situations. For instance, LT is the likely #1 in most regular drafts but Peterson is the likely #1 in most keeper drafts. That is the basis of the question. It's tough because Jackson has only had one really good year (I think at least?) but LT has proven it over the long haul. I might go with LT just because I think he has enough good years left in him and I see the Chargers offense moving forward and the Rams moving backwards over the next couple years.
Well, this is a good thing because you joined the keeper league that I put together earlier this month. I wouldn't want 12 people attacking the draft in the same exact manner. I am entering year 5 of a keeper league. Only two teams have made the playoffs all 4 years (my team and one other team). What I have done from the start is pretend it is not a keeper league. I try to make the playoffs each year. I don't mess around with projects and rookies as much as the other guys do. The people who have wasted roster spots on developmental players have not been making the playoffs- for multiple years now.
I'm in year 4 of my keeper league and (I believe) have the most wins over the past 3 years and playoffs 2 of 3. I tailored my picks based on future projections. Of course, it was a 20 team league at the time of the initial draft and I picked 16th so I needed to be choosy but it seems that the teams that drafted for that year are now scrounging to fill their rosters after Shaun Alexander, Edgerrin James, and Priest Holmes fell off the map.
