Favre to Jets is "absolutely dead'' by Dave Hutchinson Saturday July 26, 2008, 1:32 PM Brett Favre to the Jets? Fuhgeddaboudit. According to someone with knowledge of the talks between the Jets, Packers and Favre's representatives, all chances of a deal between the Packers and Jets are "absolutely dead.'' In fact, the person said chances of a deal were really remote in the first place but the Jets had to do their due diligence. That person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he's not authorized by the Jets, Packers or Favre to speak on their behalf, said that the Jets feel the only reason the issue came up is because the Packers and the Favre Camp are trying to drum up interest for the 38-year-old quarterback and they leaked the information to the media. That makes sense because while Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum refused to confirm or deny if the Jets seeked and received permission to speak with Favre, quarterback Chad Pennington said on Friday that Tannenbaum told him the Packers called the Jets. Now, with the Favre out of the picture, the Jets will go into the season with either Pennington or Kellen Clemens as their starting quarterback. __________________
Why would you be so opposed to a deal that could bring a guy who was a top 5 QB in the NFL last year to the Jets when Clemens and Pennington have done little to nothing to show that either is a starting quarterback right now? Nevermind the compensation, Favre would be an upgrade, and he wouldn't need a long-term commitment obviously.
Again, I can't help but be saddened by this, but the source behind that blurb of an article is just rock solid. Dave Hutchinson would never make something like that up. WELL! ONWARDS AND UPWARDS with the 2 QB's we had last season. They did a good job.
you know thats something that people have spun the other way saying he will only be here for 2 years. in actuality its good to have the short term situation so you are not tied up for the next 8 years with a qb you arent sure about.
Hutchinson and Cimini have been trying to kill off this story from the start. Cimini told Jets fans to "quit dreaming" yesterday. Now this from Hutchinson. They've taken extreme positions on this to kill any hope Jets fans have of getting Favre. I'll wait to hear or read it from a more neutral reporter that doesn't have an interest in being 'right'.
ya i don't believe this deal is dead at all. Rotoworld says they had preliminary talks, the deal wouldn't just die an hour later. Favre will be a Jet!
both are full of shit, read lupica if you want a thoughtful analysis of the situation http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/columnists/lupica/
What a dissapointment. Damn, the guys a winner and anyone who can't see that is Stevie Wonderbar. Pls hes an Iron man
They just updated the site to say "Editor's note: We aim for accuracy. So when further reporting lead us to believe that our original post saying a deal for Favre was "absolutely dead" was not absolutely accurate - we updated this post."
