Giambi's always been this good when he stays healthy. He was this good in 2005 and 2006, then got hurt last year. Farnsworth, like everyone in the bullpen, is good because they have a manager who knows how to use them properly. Mussina is just a good pitcher who needed a full year to re-invent himself after losing velocity. It's a myth.
Jones is through and Varitek may be close to that too. You aren't going to have great years when you no longer have the ability. Jones is even worse this year then he was last year.
Here's a quick overview of some players in their contract year this season... 1B Ben Broussard- .159 AVG, 3 HR Kevin Millar- .239 AVG, 12 HR Richie Sexson- .216 AVG, 11 HR Mark Texiera- .277 AVG, 19 HR Jim Thome- .259 AVG, 19 HR 2B Mark Ellis- .235 AVG, 9 HR Marcus Giles- .229 AVG, 4 HR Felipe Lopez- .240 AVG, 2 HR Jose Vidro- .229 AVG, 6 HR SS Orlando Cabrera- .265 AVG, 6 HR Edgar Renteria- .258 AVG, 5 HR 3B Hank Blalock- .278 AVG, 4 HR Joe Crede- .255 AVG, 17 HR C Jason Varitek- .217 AVG, 8 HR Ivan Rodriguez- .289 AVG, 5 HR Greg Zaun- .239 AVG, 5 HR OF Bobby Abreu- .275 AVG, 11 HR Garret Anderson- .266 AVG, 9 HR Carl Crawford- .268 AVG, 8 HR Adam Dunn- .239 AVG, 29 HR Brian Giles- .300 AVG, 5 HR Vladimir Guerrero- .283 AVG, 17 HR Raul Ibanez- .277 AVG, 14 HR Manny Ramirez- .301 AVG, 19 HR SP AJ Burnett- 4.73 ERA Jon Garland- 4.12 ERA John Lackey- 3.02 ERA Derek Lowe- 3.97 ERA Brad Penny- 5.88 ERA Randy Wolf- 4.74 ERA Those are just about all the players in the upcoming free agent class that aren't either very old or backups. And just about all of them are performing at levels either consistent with or lower than their career averages and/or last year's performance. I'm not saying all these guys are having bad years or anything. Many of them are having pretty good years. But nothing unexpected based on what they have done throughout their careers.
Exciting series. Yankees hot. Sox treading water. Beckett interesting start. ARod down. Pornstache up. Ahhhh. . . .this is baseball.
Ugh, already this looks like a 4 1/2 hour game. The starters will be out by the third inning at this rate with the pitch counts.
It could totally be coincidental, but Yankee prospect Phil Coke (mid-level prospect) got pulled from his start in Trenton after one inning where he struck out the side, and Xavier Nady was a scratch from the Pirates lineup. Neither appear to be injuries... we'll have to wait and see. And that was a sweet DP.
Nady and Marte have been traded. The team they've been traded to hasn't been revealed yet. The Yankees and Rays (both interested in Nady) have pulled prospects from games.
not as big of a bitch as youkilis hahahahah. how many times is that pussy gonna get thrown at before he does something hahahahah VAGINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chamberlin is a fucking punk bitch. This is the third straight game where he has faced the Sox he throws at Yuk's head. He's going to deserve everything he gets. jonny, I think he would have charged the mound there if he had been hit.
