a) bring back cookie rojas. b) endy chavez needs to watch the 3rd base coach not the right fielder on his should be triple. c)my kids stayed far away last night d)thanks bullpen i could not read the paper on the ferry & i cant listen to espn radio all day thank god for angry sex or else id be a real grouch today
Hmmm....I just read through this whole thread, very entertaining. I agree with Jeff, Santana should have been kept in, but Manuel seems to follow the Willie train of thought, never 9 innings. I expect we'll lose today and win tomorrow, only because Maine as been absolutely dreadful, but last night was horrible and I haven't felt worse about the whole season than I did last night.
i hate that lineup. we need church back and a new bat in left. chavez is a late inning defensive replacement.tatis is a decent fill in. marlon anderson should be dropped at the next bus stop matt holliday is my wet dream raul ibanez is doable casey blake is the ugly girl left in the bar @ 4am
Last nights game may have been more painful to watch than the collapse at the end of last season. I don't think I can watch tonight.
How they rebound tonight will be more important than them blowing the game last night. Hopefully Maine can keep the pitch count down below 200 by the 5th inning.
my first game of this season at shea was one of the worst i ever went to. i cant believe they fucking blew that game. If i was sitting near the mets bullpen i would have attempted to take a piss on it after the game. How important was that play by Chase Utley in the 8th, that saved the game IMO. This team can't support their ace no matter what the situation is.
Maine and Perez being the guys to turn the ship around does not fill me with confidence. Who would have expected a couple of months ago that Pelfrey would give more confidence in this position? So many blown opportunities there - baserunning blunders, Santana not being given the ball to start the 9th, bad fielding. Even with the horrible relief pitching the Mets could have still easily won that game by something like 8-5. Certainly the worst game of the season.
Some interesting Johan stats... The Mets bullpen has blown 4 wins for Santana In 20 starts this season Johan has given up 3 or less earned runs in 17 of them and 2 or less in 11 of those 17. The Mets have lost 6 games in which he has given up 2 or less earned runs and 4 in which he allowed 0 or 1 earned run. In 8 of his starts the Mets have scored 2 or less runs and have lost all of them His shortest outing of the year is 5 2/3 against the Pirates which was a Mets W but on two occasions both against Philadelphia he has gone 8 innings and lost both. He has allowed no homeruns in 10 of his 20 starts but has allowed 3 HR in a game on two occasions one win and one loss. Johan has gone over the 100 pitch mark 14 times with 116 being his highest done 3 times. The fewest amount he has thrown was 75 in a win over the Giants His ERA has peaked at 3.36 and been as low as 1.93. Currently at 3.10 started last night at 2.84 Has given up double digit hits in only two occasions a win over the Reds and a loss to the Braves. Has 7 earned runs in his last two starts with the team allowing 8 runs in each game. Has struck out 10 batters in two starts this season In his last 10 starts the Mets are 3-7 with Santana only allowing 19 earned runs which is an avg of less than 2 per game. Twice allowing 0 earned runs In that same time frame the Mets have only scored 39 runs but 21 of them have come in the last 3 games. That would leave 17 runs over a 7 game span. In fact in 4 straight starts they scored 2 or less runs from June 17 to July 4th all losses.
Well, Rich, all that adds up to a good year, maybe even bordering on a very good year, but IMO short of an excellent one, and far short of a great one. I am much more disturbed by Manuel saying last night that he is basically on a 100 pitch limit from now on. That is absolutely crazy, unless they have already determined that his shoulder really is already not in great shape (if that's the case, Omar should be fired).
maine is 4-0 against the phillies alltime at shea. the phillies have some bum going tonight. i expect us to jump on this guy early, and win tonight. a national game on tv tonight, and revenge on our minds
Maine and especially Perez have been good against the Phillies this year but I have zero confidence in Maine at this point and Perez is going up against that junkballer Moyer who will most likely completely shut the Mets down. I'd also say that Myers is probably a bit above "some bum" status.
Myers this year has basically been "some bum", knowing our luck with the Phillies though that bum will probably just shut us out.
maine has been a 5 inning guy of late, so yeah he's been frustrating. i think we will win tonight and maybe lose tomorrow, and there goes our 2 our of 3. and to me johan should easily be at least 11-4
His actual record is less important but the fact that they're 11-10 in the games he's started obviously is a bad sign.
