the PUP list!!!! Gotta love it!!! http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...n-pup-oldenburg-on-active-non-football-injury
Yea thats pretty nuts... i saw it on espn and just thought wow. this is a move i totally did not see coming. i guess the question is where do they go from here?
can he ride the bike on the sideline? my avatar refers to what chris thinks in his head everyone would do when they heard he wanted more money I think he's an idiot.
Baker is one of the best Jets, and he got a raw deal. But he has to understand that football, like all professional sports, is a business, and so he's got to shut up and play. He had his say already. Enough. Just get on the field!
Gotta agree with this point of view. I hope Keller comes out nad wows the coaching staff to the point that Baker becomes an after thought.
At the very least, being PUP means you cannot take the practice field. That's OK, because we don't need a Pete Kendall situation on the field again. It was embarrassing for Kendall even, just having to be there and then all the media bullshit. Of course, he sought out the press immediately following every practice, which is what Baker would have done, so perhaps it's good that he not even be out there. Trade his ass immediately and let's move on.
I don't like this idea. Baker and Keller may both be TEs, but they're two totally different types of players. Our receiving core are question marks, especially our number three, whoever he is. I think we need both Baker and Keller to be on the field. Baker is an exceptional player, and someone that gives it his all. I don't want to see him stay home. I wish there were some way for the Jets and him to work this out.
No way!!! Baker is way too good to trade, and this season, we don't have enough receiver weapons to even think about doing so. Letting go Kendall came back to bite us in the ass, last season. Let's not make the same mistake with Baker. I want Baker to be on this team. Jets, don't let him go!!!
He can't practice or play with the team, but it doesn't mean that he gets barred from the facilities. He can still attend team meetings, rehab, and he also receives full salary. The Jets can move him from PUP to the active roster at any time during TC. However, if he starts the seaon on the PUP list, he has to stay there until at least Week 6.
Well, let's not forget that Baker is under contract to play for the NY Jets this year... bottom line. If nothing else changes, he's obligated to play for us or he doesn't get paid. Given that scenario, and if nothing else transpires between now and September, Chris Baker will be suited up for Game One. This latest move is to get Baker off the practice field. Mangini doesn't want the distraction and side-show circus that we had with Kendall last year. Our players need to feel good about what they're doing and concentrate on gelling as a team, not seeing Chris Baker whining into a microphone 20 yards away at every break. I like the move.
How is he one of the best Jets and what is so raw about his deal? He is mediocre at best and he was/is paid very well. I used to be a supporter of Baker's but you voice your displeasure behind closed doors, let your agent earn his keep, shut your mouth and provide compelling reasons for the team to want to keep you. This entitlement attitude is bs when you haven't done anything worthwhile of a new contract especially when he just got paid.
How is he one of the best Jets? Because he catches the ball, when it's thrown to him, sometimes with one hand, sometimes when you think he would have no chance to do so. He's a damn hard worker, and on the field, even last season, he gives it 100%. That's the kind of player I want on my team! He is far from "mediocre." If you watched him play the last few seasons, you wouldn't say such a thing. He was right to voice his displeasure, when his contract was passed over in favor of other players' contracts. He has done his time with the Jets, and he should be rewarded. I have no problem whatsoever with his voicing his views in public. I totally respect his decision to do so. However, as I said, he has to understand that professional football is a business, and sometimes you don't get what you want or what you're worth. As I said, he's had his say already, and now it's time to shut up and play.
Thank you Personally I was hoping they could bar him from camp because he will be holding press conferences every day. Obliviously, they aren't going to give him his raise. For sure not going to release him. I doubt they will trade him unless they get good value. If I were Baker I would shut my mouth and try and prove to them they made a mistake. If he does he will probably get traded and get his raise. if he doesn't I think he is going to sit inactive all year, just in case Franks gets hurt. That could go on for two years. Won't but could.
