Listen, the goal is to get to the Super Bowl... and then win. Having Favre may get us there. But whether he does or he doesn't, having him instantly makes us a much better team and probably a playoff team.

Right now, we have a back-up qb and Kellen Clemens, the worst qb in the league. We need Favre, and the Jets should move mountains to get him here!

The Jets didn't want to bring Penny back. They only did so, because Kellen was horrific. Chad was viewed as a high priced insurance policy. The Jets have made a lot of exceptional moves to make this season a good one. I'd be surprised if they are not trying to get Favre, right now. And I'd be disappointed. The Jets would be so much fun to watch with Brett Favre!

Let's pretend for a second that you play a sport for a living, and are damn good at it. You have loved it your whole life and went out on one of your best statistical seasons, on the best offense you have been on in years and you end up throwing a costly pick in a play-off game and a minute after everyone is in your face asking if you want to retire, and then you retire. Maybe you don't want to spend the rest of your life golfing and fishing and think that throwing the ol' pigskin is pretty fun still. Also, he has only talked about retiring for the past 2 seasons. The previous years, it was all media speculation because he was throwin 20 picks a year and he was on a bad team going 5-11 and such. This is the first year he has actually retired. Strahan's the bigger douche, and I already said Favre wouldn't come here, if you read at all.

Originally he was asking for a release, which would only require a signing..complications w/ the Packers etc. etc. I know. But, you know you are speaking to a Jets fan if he thinks that Brett Favre will do an equivalent job to Chad Pennington on the same team, at any point in their careers. Now not only am I puzzled, I am laughing.

The major problem is that the Jets wouldn't be guaranteed the Favre of 2007. If you get the Favre of 2005 or 2006 then they would be screwed. If Favre plays next year like he played last year than I think 90% of the fans would think it would be worth a trade (even if it put off the Jets decision for the QB of the future).

However, at his advanced age will Favre be able to duplicate last year's season? I would say that the answer is probably no. If he goes back to his tendencies of 2005 / 2006 (40 TD's and 49 picks) then the Jets would have wasted another year, given up draft choices, and some cash.

My main contention with the thought of Penny and a 3rd for Favre is it would be overpaying a bit, but not a lot.

That said, I think the area I struggle with most is that Penny would not be a good fit for Green Bay at all. The weather would play havoc with his game. For that reason alone I do not think GB would want Penny at all.
