Jets fans have been sitting on the sidelines the past three weeks, watching the Giants' personal seat license drama unfold and wondering when it would be their turn for bad news.

Yesterday, they got their first official taste of it. The team issued a statement saying, "We are developing our PSL plan that we will announce at the end of August."

It was the first time the team publicly acknowledged it will use PSLs to fund its half of the joint stadium with the Giants.

The team sent a questionnaire to fans in the spring gauging tolerance levels for PSLs at various prices, raising concerns among season-ticket holders.

Glauber's NFL Blog Unlike the Giants, the Jets do not have a recent Lombardi Trophy to soften the blow.

Before the Jets issued their statement, Giants president John Mara was asked whether he would be shocked if his stadium partners do not resort to PSLs.

"Let's just say I'd be surprised," he said, "because they're carrying the same debt that we're carrying."

How about don't build the fucking stadium so you don't dump then debt on your fans. This is depressing.

I'll do without the state of the art bullshit if it means it costs 80 to go to a game.

I just keep thinking the Jets are going to charge more per PSL than the Giants did. That would be a monsterous disaster.

While I cant imagine how they can try to get away with charging more than the Giants, I cant say I'd be surpriesed. Since I'm in the 1,000 area I'm hoping it wont be more, although I could see the ticket prices being more as well.

I feel the same one. I'm in the $1,000 area as well, and I have four tickets there, if it's anymore we'll(my family) have to really sit down and see what we want to do. Whether it means dropping two tickets or giving it all up. I also wouldn't be surprised at all if the Jets end up charging more, they're kind of like the Mets-can never get anything right.

i guess if we have to share the cost, we should share the revenue, no?
Don't remember the area pricing, but judging by the fact that i'm behind the jet bench, on about the 50yd line, 2nd and 3rd rows from the field, i could probably by a Cadillac, with my psl money.
    FUCK EM.

for those people thinking of dropping out, they should merge so at least you get half a season and half a PSL price tag.

example: mparty and sect314 both have 4 seats but cant afford 4.well compromise and mparty take 2 and sect314 take 2 seats at whoever has better location.and than split the season tickets.this way a party of 4 still get to go but at half the price and half a season.

My second biggest worry is losing my upper deck tickets to a lower deck refugee. Back to ebay for me

Actually, no, because you can sell the PSL. That's what people are forgetting. The PSLs could appreciate in value and you can end up making money on the deal.

Doing a little math using the Giants numbers, your tickets are going up to 700 per game per ticket. So three years of tickets (which will take you to 2011 when you can sell the psl) will run you in the neighborhood of $164,000 (if you have 4 seats).

EDIT. YOur tickets cost 160 so its about 100K for three years , 4 seats. Now I'm confused. Why is a mezz seat a 12500 psl but a 500 ticket? I guess those are club seats, but then why are field seats a way higher psl?

not sure why ppl think the jets psl's would be higher. The Giants even this year charge more for parking then the jets do. I think thats a good indication that we might have cheaper PSL's or the same amount. BTW, my seats are in the upper deck, and i am looking at 1,000 a ticket for 2 tickets..

Is It A Good Idea To Merge This Thread With The Giants PSL Thread?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think this thread should be merged with the Giants PSL thread because, as PSL news articles are appearing, they usually have information about both franchises. We're going to wind up double-posting information.

Anyway, I've read several articles on this from various sources this morning and what I find interesting is the way the Giants are going about it. Most of us have been thinking that we'll be informed of what seat we are going to get BEFORE we have to shell out the money. Not so, at least with the Giants.

"Today the Giants will send out the first in a wave of mailings to season subscribers, covering 5,000 of the best seats in the current stadium. The process will run through February.

Fans wishing to buy PSLs must pay 20 percent of the cost 30 days after receiving the mailing, the next 40 percent by Aug. 1, 2009, and the final 40 percent by March 1, 2010."

This first wave of mailings was also mentioned in the Post, but they alos pointed out something pretty significant. They said that SEAT ASSIGNMENTS WON'T BE KNOWN UNTIL 2010!

So what they are doing is, starting with the most desireable seats in the house (the $20,000 seats), they are giving those people 30 days to give them an answer. They are also going to collect 20% as a deposit.

Then, the next wave goes out. They collect those deposits, and so forth. Finally, when all Sections have been notified, then and only then do you get to find out where your seats are.

That's just f@cking great. Because now, even if you pony up 20% of the PSL money, they still won't be telling you where your seats will be. Sure, you could be locking up, say, the Upper deck with your $200 deposit, only to find out later on that you committed to Row 48 in the corner!

I mean, the way the Giants are doing this... I mean even the way they are going about it, stinks. A guy can commit to a certain broad area or section and still not know if he has deceint seats within that area or the last row. And TS if you don't like the seats after you find out where they are, because you've already shelled out 100% of the PSL cost.

I bring this out because many of us have been under the impression that some sort of negotiating will take place for what seats, etc., (i.e., "I want my same seats"). Not so. You might have 1st Row in the Upper Section and fork up the money, only to find out you were displaced to the 18th Row by many of those above-mentioned 5,000 ticketholders that were initially notified of the $20,000 and committed to the Uppers instead.

GIANTS CHARGING UP TO 20G TO SECURE STADIUM SEATS

    Call it a Giant rip-off.

Big Blue season-ticket holders will have to pay a one-time fee of at least $1,000 - and as much as $20,000 - just for the right to buy their passes for the team's new Meadowlands stadium starting in 2010, team officials said yesterday.

The fees - known as "personal seat licenses" - will apply to all sections of the 82,500-seat stadium.

Those who choose not to pay the PSL fee will forfeit their tickets - and the rights will go to the next in line on the 130,000-person waiting list.

"We hope we don't get many [cancellations]," said Giants co-owner John Mara. "That remains to be seen."

PSLs allow fans to control the seats for as long as they continue to buy season tickets.

The price breakdown, as first reported by The Post on its Web site yesterday, is as follows:

    * Fans that occupy 26,179 upper-deck seats will have to shell out $1,000 a seat.

    * PSL prices for seats in the mezzanine and loge will span from $4,000 to $12,500.

    * Fewer than 5,000 field-level seats will have a PSL price of $5,000 to $20,000. Seats in the "Coach's Club" section near the 50-yard line will have $20,000 price tags.

Club seats allow fans to enjoy perks such as sitting behind the Giants bench, access to an adjacent club where they can indulge in free food and the ability to view post-game interviews with coaches and players through a glass partition.

Mara said the gross proceeds from the licenses - $371 million before taxes - would be used to help fund the stadium's $1.6 billion construction costs.

The team sent brochures to 1,600 fans who hold about 5,000 seats closest to the 50-yard line.

Fans must respond within 30 days, team officials said.

The mailings will continue through next year and seats will be assigned in early 2010.

The PSLs do not allow season-ticket holders to own their seats for any other performance or sporting event at the stadium.

Mara said fans can resell the licenses - currently imposed on fans by 11 other NFL franchises - only after the 2011 season.

The Jets, who will play in the same stadium, have not decided whether they will also sell seat licenses. The team sent out a survey last month to gauge how their fans feel about similarly imposed fees.

Whats disgusting is that they tell you once the PSL is paid for, you can "resell" the tickets for the price you think is necessary. How the hell do they expect fans to do that? Its such a perfect loophole for them to fuck the loyalists.

my heart bleeds for you sir.

thats what i'm thinking too. i can't imagine we "upper deckers" will get to keep our seasons unless we want to fork up crazy dollars for these lame as stadium clubs and their bobo-azz steak and martini bars..

the lower deck faithful will have the option to move up top and those of us up-top will be pushed right out.

this really sucks and makes my 6 hour round-trip drives to nj from pats-country even more anger-filled.

i feel like frank rizzo lookin for brett huir.

I noticed the same thing, Gator. Weird. The Post actually has a map of the new stadium showing the price levels in each area. But it makes no sense that some PSLs are higher than others but have lower ticket prices, and vice-versa.

The whole thing is f@cked up IMO. The worst part is, you have to commit and plunk down 20%, then pay 40% more in 2009 and the final 40% in March of 2010. When you're finished paying, THEN AND ONLY THEN do you get to fine out where TF your seats are within that Section. WTF?
