Yea i found the link about it. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3493648 hope that means we wont get bonds
He can hit. He's obviously not ARod, but considering that we're trying to fill a DH spot, and the next best available player is Bonds, is it really that bad to pay a guy the league minimum and take a risk on him?
The Yankee faithful will eat this guy for breakfast....he couldn't even handle the pressure in Seattle. his average against lefties is pretty reassuring....but i can't see him turning the corner, and regaining his form ..not with this team anyway. His overall average is .218...last year he hit .205 for the year.....not exactly great numbers for a DH. not to sound pessimistic, but i wouldn't get too excited over this guy.
At this moment, I say good move. He is probably a better hitter than a few others the Yankees currently have in their line up.
Bonds was a headache that didn't improve the club, just helped keep trucking along. Sexson is probably more of the same, but doesn't come with the media baggage. This is obviously just a move to get us through the rough time if Matsui doesn't return and Damon is out for an extended period. I don't really know what people expect. Would you rather Cashman offered up the farm for anyone not named Pujols, when we have a pretty decent chance to not play past September? Personally, I'd rather he makes this move, and if the team can't get it in gear over the next two weeks, he sells, if possible, Abreu, Giambi, & Damon. Let's try to get some value for these guys. If you're complaining about Cashman with this move, what would you do right now, if you were in his position?
I must say, after reading various sites and boards, I don't think I've ever seen such negative reaction to such a small move. If he's good, he fills a huge void. If he sucks, he's cut, no harm done.
If he sucks, I bet he's around for a little while, at least a month. So if he sucks for a month, I guess he could hurt the team. But if he can hit lefties, he's more than worth his while.
good low-risk acquisition. Sexson kills lefties and that's what they need. He's talented, but Seattle clearly overpaid him and they got fed up.
