He should have relyed on his teammates more, he had a better WR corps than he did in the previous few years. Although I wouldn't argue with you on the fact that he made the WR's on his team much better than they were..... Antonio Freeman ring a bell.
I'll have to check for the exact number, but there are not many at all in the last 2 seasons (since the 2nd shoulder surgery)... I know he has thrown many more TDs to the opposing team in the final minutes of close games than to his own team (0)...
No he's right. He was doing too many hopeless prayers for awhile. All he had for a few seasons is Ahaman Green and Donald Driver. Now the team is MUCH better than I've seen since the SB win.
I think this is a great post and I see exactly what you're saying. I think the only problem with this is that in Favre's case, he's not washed up... his problem is he already announced retirement, then went back on it... he's hesitant, can't make up his mind... almost comes across as desperate in a way... his circumstances are different than the ones you listed above. In this particular case I think the Packers are making the right call on moving on to tomorrow rather than sticking with today. I think the exact same reasoning should be applied in the case of Favre vs Clemens.
Rich---- Just checked, he has one 4th Q comeback since Week 1 2006.... We entered the 4th quarter up 3-0 in Week 16 of 2006 vs Miami (but by the time we had our first possession, they had scored to make it 7-3, with about 13 minutes left), and wound up winning 13-10..... That was also the closest to a legitimate 2-min drill Chad has come in the last two seasons outside of the FG last season against Miami to preserve that early game that we almost blew.... We took over with a little more than 2 minutes left, and, thanks to that great screen to Leon Washington, were able to convert the winning FG, giving Miami less than 10 seconds to come back...
My take on why GB doesn't want to take him back, and this is pure speculation on my part, is that the GM/Owner are: a) Annoyed with the yearly retire/not retire crap. b) Too proud to make the right decision and bring Favre back. These guys are rich/powerful guys who don't want one of their employees running the show. Their egos can't handle it. I mean, you're talking about a team that was an overtime away from the superbowl last season with Favre. If he wants to continue playing with you, you don't tell him no. That's just retarded. And what are their fans going to think of management running Favre out of town? I can't imagine the backlash in WI.
Wow I stand corrected.... I guess all those memories are from tht 1st year he played and he was labeled the "next Joe Montana"
But if we make that trade, our pick would only be around #23-26. Not Hall-of-fame level talent. And it might not even require that much.
Probably right... However, that Christmas Miami game in '06 was so awesome, it makes up for the fact that it's the only one in 2 years... As I was going through, I watched the highlights on NFL.com... Gave me chills... GOD do I love beating Miami!
Think about this.....Farve would be slingin all over the field to Coles, Cothery, Stuckey, or hitten Keller down the seam with a 30yd rope, or duppin it off to Washington who runs 40 yds in 4.3 or handin off to T Jones who powers his was between Faneca and Mangold for 9 yds....our offense is really pretty damn good if you plug in Farve....assuming he can digest the playbook quicly. In fact I would say with the aforementioned weapons we have a top 5 offense.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=williamson_bill&id=3474482 Now that Favre has requested freedom, consider his 32 options By Bill Williamson ESPN.com Updated: July 11, 2008 Comment Email Print AP Photo/Morry Gash Who's got next in the Packers' QB rotation? Aaron Rodgers (left) has done his time as a backup. But Brett Favre (right) mightbethisclose to resuming his playing career. If Favre does return but is not a Packer, where might he fit? Editor's note: This column originally was published July 5. Now that Brett Favre has asked the Green Bay Packers for his release so he can play elsewhere, the search for a compatible team has hit a new level. The Packers -- who had been focused on developing Aaron Rodgers at quarterback the past four months since Favre's retirement announcement -- will have to decide whether to try to keep Favre, trade him or release him. The most likely scenario would be a trade, which would allow the Packers to control where Favre plays. With every other NFC North team likely interested in Favre, the Packers would be silly to release him, and thus allow him to stay in the division. It's a tough call, given the fallout if the Packers don't try to talk Favre out of his release request. Put the odds of him playing for the Packers at 6-1. The following is a look at the odds of Favre winding up with each of the 31 other teams in the NFL: Ideal Destinations At 6-1, we have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jon Gruden loves collecting quarterbacks, and this would be his greatest catch of all. If Favre becomes available, it wouldn't be a shocker if the Buccaneers make a run at him. And if they do, Tampa could be attractive to Favre. This is another team to watch. 7-1 Carolina Panthers: This could be an intriguing possibility, although on Saturday The Charlotte Observer reported that Panthers general manager Marty Hurney dismissed an Internet report that Favre was interested in playing for Carolina. That said, Favre probably would like to play in the South, and the Panthers are a good quarterback away from being a solid playoff contender. Jake Delhomme can be effective, but he is coming off elbow surgery. If Favre comes back and is no longer a Packer, keep an eye on the Panthers. 8-1 Baltimore Ravens: This could be a real possibility if Favre really wants to play this season. Baltimore is a decent team in need of a quarterback. Sure, the Ravens took Delaware QB Joe Flacco in the first round of the April draft. But no one would blame the Ravens for holding off on the Flacco era in favor of Favre for a year or two. If Favre wants to come back, Baltimore could be a place to consider. 25-1 Minnesota Vikings: This is the perfect landing spot for Favre. The Vikings are the best team in need of a quarterback. The addition of Favre would make Minnesota an instant Super Bowl contender. But there's a problem: The Packers likely would never let that happen. Other Possible Options 30-1 Houston Texans: This could be a sleeper team. The Texans are on the verge of good things, but they are not exactly settled at quarterback. Sage Rosenfels is waiting in the wings should Matt Schaub have issues. If Favre were available, then Texans coach Gary Kubiak, a quarterback lover, would be tempted. 30-1 New York Jets: Seeing Favre in the green-and-white would invoke memories of Joe Namath, and Favre playing in the Big Apple would make for a great story. But it's unlikely. The Jets have a lot to prove before they can be considered a contender again. It's doubtful Favre would be interested. 30-1 San Francisco 49ers: If the 49ers were just a little better, this would be an interesting spot. But Favre likely would deem the 49ers too far away from contention to entertain the thought. 30-1 Washington Redskins: You can never put anything past the Redskins, but with Jason Campbell apparently healthy and ready to continue his development, it wouldn't make sense for the Redskins to look at Favre. But they've done things in the past that didn't make sense, either. 35-1 Atlanta Falcons: Wouldn't it be ironic if Favre ended his career where it started? The Falcons could use him, delaying the Matt Ryan era. But there's little chance Atlanta, which is still far from being a contender, would appeal to Favre at this point. 35-1 Kansas City Chiefs: On paper, the Chiefs would love to have Favre. He would fix their quarterback woes for the short term. But this is not a good match. The Chiefs want to get younger, and Favre wants to win. 35-1 Miami Dolphins: The Dolphins are surely in need of a quarterback. Rookie Chad Henne will get his chance. But the Dolphins probably would love to have a vet like Favre to show Henne the way. But would Favre want to be a Dolphin at this point?
We agree on Pennington but I think it'll take more than Baker to get him. I'd do it for Pennington and a second round pick.
So the old man walks in from work tonight. "I guess you heard Brett Favre is gonna be a Jet." "....What?" "Brett Favre." "....What?" "Haha, shut up." "You first!"
