There's a lot of bandwagon talk from Kruk, Gammons, and the rest of BT crew... gotta hype that stellar matchup with Colorado for Sun nite ratings. Eric Young thinks the Mets would be runaway favorites if they landed Bonds: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/notebook?page=bbtn Wow, what a difference a week makes! Thanks Phils!
 :rofl2: Yes, you can ask my father (and all of the people around us) about how I felt about the bunts. Not the most exciting game ever, and Maine is extraordinarily frustrating, but Tatis was a monster, and the rest of the pitchers once again did their jobs. It was a classic case of an apparently good team just wearing down a bad one, something we certainly didn't think we'd see this year. Part of me is happy to hear that Alou is finally done. Better to know the obvious for absolute sure than to deal with this BS over and over. The talk about Bonds should just stop.
Now that we know that Alou is gone we have to find a replacement is there anyone on the market that we can get? Because I am certain that our bench can't ride the wave for the rest of the season.
I've actually heard that they may be interested in Holliday from Colorado. I don't know what they would need to give up but that would be amazing if they somehow pulled this off.
Sure, until people realize that Holliday is an .800 OPS guy away from Coors Field and has even worse numbers at Shea in his career.
Because he would be the worst defensive player in history, he had 0 range before this hiatus, now it will be ugly. There is no guarantee that he would bring offensive numbers but there will be a guarantee that he will bring a media circus everywhere, and after we just got rid of one circus with the Randolph situation it makes no sense to bring another one.
fair enough - I had no idea about his lack of defensive skills. I'm a fair weather Mets fan and don't follow baseball all that much. I do think people put too much negative emphasis on "media circus" though. If he wasn't terrible in the field I wouldn't care about that part.
The question is do we have anything we can give up? I think we have zero in terms of minor league talent other than F Mart. If you look at the outfielders we have in New Orleans I can't see anybdy going nuts over a 30 year Valentino Pascucci or any of the other garbage that is there. Our minor league system is truely depleted so I don't know how we make a move for anybody.
Speaking of morons, truly moronic voting for the All-Star game in taking Hart over Wright. Presumably this will put to bed forever the notion that Wright is overrated.
The Mets don't need a Holliday, they can win without him and he would probably cost Maine or Pelfrey + F-Mart. They just need a dependable starter in LF who can hit 5th or 6th, preferably a RH bat, so that Endy/Tatis/Anderson can be used off the bench, where they are better utilized. Nady obviously makes a ton of sense because of his ability to play 1B as well as OF, but other teams can offer more than the Mets can. Raul Ibanez makes a lot of sense, he can probably had for a mid-level prospect and is an RBI machine. Only problem is he hits lefty so you can't have Ibanez/Church/Delgado.
