now that's just their fault. You don't pinch hit there, even if you're down. Matt Kemp: Ball, Kemp safe at first on Weaver's fielding error. Blake DeWitt: Strike looking, Strike looking, Ball, Kemp stole second, Kemp to third on Mathis' throwing error, DeWitt hit sacrifice fly to right, Kemp scored. was the only run so far. Stolen base and the catcher throwing the ball into center field sent the runner to 3rd. 1st to 3rd parlay. 0 runs on 3 hits for the Angels. 1 run on 0 hits for LA.
24 PC, 0.1 INN, 5 HA, 5 ER, 135.000 ERA, 15.000 WHIP, L Guess the pitcher... Hope the Yankees or Phillies get him.
I was watching Dodgers-Astros earlier in the top of the 2nd and Luis Maza went down and golfed a pitch at his ankles. Quintero was going down and in for the pitch, and Maza's long backswing hit him on the top of the head. He was down for a good five minutes, before Ausmus replaced him. Bottom of the 2nd, James Loney made a great diving catch on a bunt that was popped into foul territory by Wandy Rodriguez.
Chad Billingsley retired the first 10 Astros he faced, then a single and a double play. He faced the minimum amount of batters in the first four innings. He faced the minimum into the 5th. 14 batters, 14 outs. Then Maza, who's only playing because Furcal is injured, made an awful error, leading to two runs after a Pence single and a Towles double. 5-2 Dodgers in the 6th.
I had picked Milwaukee to upset Arizona, and they were up 5-0 in the 9th. Arizona scores 6 in bottom of the 9th to win.
and those 6 runs were scored without the pitching getting anyone out. Aaron Cook is now 2/3 as a pinch hitter.* Good pitcher and he can hit, too. His single tonight knocked Andrew Miller out of the game. *- he passed Mike Hampton for 2nd. Hampton was 1/6 as a pinch hitter with the Rockies. There's a pitcher who has 3 pinch hits for Colorado. Forget the name.
Did anyone see the Rockies/Marlins score yesterday? 18-17 9 inning game http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/boxscore?gid=280704127
that rockies/marlins series is just insane. I watched their game on Thursday. Wild finish. Now they shatter the runs record for the season. Not even close. 35 runs. second comeback win for the rockies in two days.
I wasn't aware of this, but ESPN informed me that Ryan Howard is on pace to absolutely shatter the single season K record. He has 28 more than Dunn right now!
He is having a truly bizarre year. Check out these splits. With bases empty: 84 188 172 28 2 0 12 12 15 0 67 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 .163 .234 .384 .618 .172 68 56 With men on base: 85 198 165 47 10 2 11 64 29 9 56 1 0 3 1 5 1 0 .285 .389 .570 .959 .356 151 144 With runners in scoring position: 76 138 109 36 8 0 8 56 26 9 35 0 0 3 1 2 0 0 .330 .449 .624 1.073 .406 182 175 He's been about as bad as anyone could be with the bases empty, and has been great otherwise. That's how he can have a .788 OPS and also 76 RBI in 89 games.
^ very odd Francisco Rodriguez broke John Smoltz's record by getting his 35th save before the All Star break. Max Ramirez of the Rangers made one of the most ridiculous plays I've ever seen. Jeff Mathis knocked him out with a tremendous hit at the plate. Ramirez held onto the ball, but was knocked head over heels. Kotchman was on second, but broke for third when he saw Ramirez go flying. Ramirez somehow got up and threw Kotchman out at third. Wow. Have to watch it to do it justice.
