It might be worth a shot. He had a decent season before he got hurt, and showed some moxy and toughness. By all accounts, he was having a lot of trouble last year throwing the ball recovering from the surgery. I wouldn't mind giving him a shot.
Dude if he still had potential to be the qb of the future Jon Gruden would have kept him. Jon Gruden may be a dick but he knows his qbs
SameOldJets2008, I don't think Gruden is releasing him now for a reason. Just like everybody else, Gruden wants to see what Simms does in training camp. Simms has to take his chances AFTER he shows Gruden (and the rest of the world, by the way) just what he can actually do now. Gruden wants to know whether Simms can be traded or he just is released as of no value to the Bucs. Hard but true facts in the money world of the NFL.
Kid is always injured... Weak arm and average QB at best... We will pass , Better off how it is between Clemens and Pennington.
^ He ruptured his spleen and missed '06, then was put on IR for '07 due to the same injury. He has now had basically 2 years to heal. He also has a pretty good arm. It's far from weak. In '05 - his only real season he threw 10 TD's to 7 INT's, led the team to 3 fourth quarter comebacks for wins, and the team made the playoffs. He did pretty well, much better than Clemens' first season. All I'm saying is he's worth taking a look at to see if he can compete with the other 2 potential starters. If he's damaged goods then it's another story, but it has been 2 years.
Why not take a chance on him? We could get him cheap and if he doesn't work out who cares? We will just be adding more competition to a weak position which is never a bad thing. He does not have a weak arm, and to say that shows that you really know nothing about him.
Simms completely sucked before he had to be chopped in half to remove his spleen. The only reason he ever started a game in the NFL is becasue Griese got hurt and Jon Gruden is retarded.
Simms has had two years to recover. Assuming he passes a physical, he's far better than Chad, and if Clemens can't live up to what the Jets need, I'd rather have Simms to go to than Chad. The numbers would dictate whether to actually make this move, but if they make sense, I would do it. I don't place much stock in Gruden preferring Garcia over him since Garcia imo is a very good qb who played well last year. If Gruden is telling Simms he will not start and will not play unless Garcia goes down, why wouldn't Simms want out? He was playing until he got hurt, and his career goes nowhere unless he gets a shot to play somewhere else. Given that Chad is done and Clemens might not be the answer, the team's fortunes at Qb would be far better protected with Simms in there than Chad the washed up has been.
he must have something on woody, tanny or mangini, because they keep his noodle arm around in defiance of common sense.hmy:
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NFL&line=117494&id=318 seriously though, with our QB's, how do we not take a chance on him? You know we could get him on the cheap. He comes back with a chip on his shoulder to the city his father was a star in? I say why not?
Ive always liked Simms. The only thing i'm concerned w/, is if we brought him in, it might disturb the overall competition and Clemen's development. I still believe that grooming a QB takes TIME...and that Clemens will grow in year 2 of being a starter. And thats the last thing im gonna say about the vastly overrated and over discussed QB position.
I agree with you GSour, I wouldn't mind seeing what he's got left, but honestly when the season starts and we're down to 3 qbs, if Clemens can't cut it, I'd rather roll the dice with Ratliff or Ainge than Penny or Simms. I have faith in Clemens and we can assume Chad will make the cut... and if things don't work out, I'd rather have another fresh start than one of two deadbeats (well at least one , probably two).
Starting Clemens as a preferred option over Chad is not the same situation as what it would be if Simms were brought in here. Again, we know what we have in Chad, and it ain't enough. If Clemens can't beat Chad out, well yeah, of course Clemens doesn't deserve to start, but all we then will have is Chad. Clemens may be able to beat Chad out and still not get it done. That's my concern. So if Simms comes in, the scenarios are all better. Simms is younger than Chad. If he beats out Clemens, maybe he stays as the starter for a few years while the organization looks elsewhere to get a Qb suitable for grooming as the eventual starter. If Clemens beats out Simms at least the Jets end up having a vet Qb backup who does not have a noodle for an arm. It's all good. Plus we hasten the day when Chad Fans have to make their choice of whether to continue rooting for the team when Chad is gone. An added bonus.
Bringing in Chris Simms ... I hope the Jets built a bigger wall at the new training complex to throw all the shit at and see what sticks.
I would much rather have Sims in the QB competition with Clemens than Chad. It's time to move on from Pennington people. I'm sorry you spent your money on his jersey (for those of you who did. lol) and I know there are a few people out there that are rooting for him for this sole purpose... but it's time.
