Local guy, Denville, NJ. Love those Pats throwbacks. I hated them when they were the actual Pats uniforms because I just hate them, but they are way better than that USFL looking shit they wear now.
I never liked him. That MNF game must have been before my time, Grogan was one of my all-time most hated QBs, that pencil neck. I remember a 55-21 loss in 1978 and 56-3 in 1979, both up there on Sunday afternoons. The 56-3 game was Week 2, right after Robinson got benched after winning the QB job in camp. The mysterious thumb injury that changed the fate of the Jets.
Ah, that's why--I was 9, not allowed to stay up for MNF back then, but I was already a Jet fan. One time, I think before that, maybe 1974, my dad came and got me out of bed to watch Namath lead a 2:00 drill at the end of a MNF game at Miami in the Orange Bowl. I think we lost. Did the truth ever come out about what happened to Robinson's thumb? He said it was a doorknob, turned out to be something else. Michaels was so pissed he never played him again. He threw that duck to set up the game winning INT in OT of Week 1 vs Cleveland and that was the end of him.

JP was a good backup, people had their expectations a little too high for him. He filled in and did a good job in '01 when Randy Thomas was hurt and played well in '02 until Szott came back in december. He was a useful backup. He was only #77 for 1 year so we'll be seeing JP again in 2 weeks.
He was another one of those Coslet era guys who we thought could be so good but never quite panned out. For a while that young defense with Hasty, Lageman, Byrd, Marvin Washington, etc, looked like they were going to turn into a really good defense.
