Disgruntlement, bad pitching, bad fielding. Welcome to Mets management, Jerry.

how did he lose the team?

because reyes is a baby who can't handle being taken out of the game?

I couldn't disagree more. If this gets Reyes to get his head out of his ass it's a good thing, and if it doesn't he's a hopeless case. There is absolutely no justification for Reyes' ridiculous behavior, and I would be getting all over Willie if he let him get away with it and congratulating him just as much if he did the same thing.

I stand behind Manuel in approval of his choice.

Reyes said he was fine, leave him in. How does the manager know better then the player whether or not he's OK?

If Manuel wants to play hard ass why not do it to a player that sucks.

I'm confused...Willie's not there any more; shouldn't we be up 5 runs? How did Johan give up any with a new manager? Or is that not how this works?

Just like Church said he was fine? Mets/Willie let him make that choice and look what happened...

That has nothing to do with the issue, which is showing up the manager. If it had been a player who sucked who did it, he would have gotten yelled at just as much, and that's entirely the point. Maybe Reyes will stop playing half the time like he doesn't give a shit.

...And it's 4-1. Would it have killed a two time Cy Young winner to step up and give a dominant performence as the team goes through a turbulent time? Would it? And then Beltran fucks up the throw. Manuel seems likable, but if things don't work out, this could be my least liked Met team since the Jeremy Burnitz/Robby Alomar days.

I think it's telling, by the way, that people aren't even commenting on what's actually happening in this thread, but just second guessing that first inning. It almost doesn't even matter at this point.

gotta get on johan for this one...

can you go out there and have a dominating start when the team really needs it?

yeah i know he did it last time, but how about doing it over and over? like an ace is suppose to?

you said: How does the manager know better then the player whether or not he's OK?

    that applies to everything, then.

Since when does Reyes play like he doesn't give a shit? Maybe he's not as "animated" on the field this season since the organization blamed him and Milledge for Glavine giving up 7 runs in 1/3 of inning last year in the last game.

I think the "lack of effort" stuff gets thrown around way too much in regards to this team. When Luis Castillo sits back and turns a routine ground ball into an IF hit, that's not giving a shit. When Delgado waves his arm at a ball going by him without taking a step that's not giving a shit. If Reyes boots a ball, that's an error, it happens.

The point is, Reyes showed up his manager, on the first night of his job, in the first inning of his job, on the first batter of his job.

That is a TERRIBLE choice on Reyes' part and a VERY selfish thing to do.

Its almost laughable, how stupid that looked. Non Mets fans get a laugh out of that.

It is very illuminating that while trying to praise Willie, Ron couldn't actually come up with anything other than he's a classy guy. Gary, on the other hand, has actually had the guts to say something explicit - that he was incapable of changing to adapt to his team.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. We really need Keith's opinion though.

Delgado, throw us a bone. Please.

Also, if I were Manuel, I'd make Reyes come back and sit on the bench for the rest of the game.
