Oh yes. The Mets did a great job here. Essentially, they replaced Willie Randolph with virtually the same manager and probably even downgraded. What the fuck is the point.
I still think they should have waited until the end of the season to do this. What is the point of firing a coach during the actual season? The Mets, in all likelihood, just gave up the season, as now the players will have even less direction than they did with Randolph at the helm. Fired him game 1 of an interleague series against one of the best teams in the majors and after winning 3 of 4? I really hope the players can rally around Manuel and somehow not completely give away the rest of the season.
The firing is the right decision, but the timing couldn't have been worse. Seriously, there were about 5000 other points in time this season alone that could have been better than this. What classless bullshit. I feel bad for these guys now. And really, why Manuel and why is Alomar still here? I see no reason why Nieto had to go over Alomar. On top of that, Manuel is Randolph's clone. The only good move I see is Oberkfell coming up to the big club, as he's the sort of presence they need in that clubhouse.
Bingo. Omar kept Willie here as long as he possibly could, because he knew that the reason this team sucks, is because of the team he put together. Now that Willie's gone, Omar's head will be next.
Mets win the most gutless and least professional move of the 2008 MLB season. You'd think a team in NEW YORK of all places would know better than to do this. Immensely stupid. Whoever made this call should be gone. I don't know whether it's Omar or a Wilpon, but whatever moron decided that it was a good idea to fire the manager in the middle of the night should be thrown overboard.
This reminds me of when the Magic fired Doc Rivers and not the GM. I wonder how the Rivers guy is doing now..
The way it was handled was ridiculous but anyone who has watched this team for the past year+ knows it was the right move to make. Willie was a terrible manager and probably has managed his last game ever.
My sister speaks Spanish and she doesn't have a drop of spanish blood in her. You can learn a language especially in a job like that.
i felt the same way about the joe torre situation last year. handled with no class and zero common sense, but obviously the right move to make.
