You cannot compare the 2, McCareins was a good player for us for a little while and a key to nearly making the '04 Title Game. He stunk last year but I still appreciate what he did in '04 for us.

Extremely. That year we had a grass field for pre-season and turf for regular season, this looks like turf, but I don't see any crowd or opponent to give it away.

This was it, 98 yards. He was a rookie and probably shouldn't have fielded a punt at his own 2, but he did. We beat Jimmy, Troy, Emmit and the Cowboys that day.

McCareins came in and did well his first year considering the circumstances, and then did next to nothing after 2004. Plus he had a rather large contract for the lack of performance. Call me crazy, but I'd rather find out the guy is a bum in year one than have him play like a madman the first season and then continuously disappoint every following year.

Actually that brown stuff in the background is grass. We never had the nicest grass in the meadowlands. It was from a 1998 preseason game against baltimore. This was tricky for a couple of reasons- 1st the grass and 2nd daytime. When do we ever have daytime preseason games? I believe this was the last time we played a dyatime preseason game, at least at home. I actually went to the Yankee-Ranger game at 1PM that day then we headed over the Meadowlands for the 5PM kickoff of the preseason game. It was a fun day although we got shutout but it was preseason so it didn't matter.

I didn't think we had grass at the meadowlands until 2000.

In the '98 & '99 preseasons they experimented w/ grass(the '99 Viking preseason game they had put the turf back on the field so we played both giant games and the Raven game from '98 on grass) befroe putting the turf down for the reg seasons. From '00-'02 they used the grass in the reg seasons.

Cool. I was traveling back then so I didn't see most of the pre-season games. I thought the daylight might have been because it was pre-game warm-ups during the summer.

I do actually remember the Jet-Giant game from that pre-season, because I was in a hotel in Illinois on Thursday night and ESPN had the game. It was the first time I saw the old/new uniforms since I was a kid and the first time I saw Vinny in a Jet helmet. There was a close-up of Vinny in that helmet and he reminded me of Namath from my childhood days, that turned out to be a good omen of things to come. That was the game in which Jason Sehorn broke his leg returning a kickoff.

This is great. I love the older stuff you have, too, thanks. Now I feel kind of bad I that was rooting for Richard Todd in the QB controversy of 1979.

Matt Robinson had charisma, a great arm and was a natural leader, Todd was a joke...

My dad was a big Matt Robinson fan. I liked him, I remember him hitting Wesley Walker for a TD bomb to beat the great Orange Crush defense in Denver in 1978. That was a fun year when he played.

A few weeks later I was at the New England game at Shea that was supposed to be Todd's big return from the injury. The Jets got a tunrover inside the NE 5 on the first possession, Todd came in for the gimme and we were up 7-0. Later he got reinjured and Robinson came in, lead the Jets to what should have been the game winning FG but Leahy missed it. That was the same day of the Herman Edwards-Giants game with the fumble at the Meadowlands, both local teams lost 19-17 and should have won.
