They really are. I think it's the combination of incompetence and ridiculously bad luck this team has had. I mean just in the past week the Mets have lost 2 games due to ridiculous plays made against Wright. That's just one guy. I remember at least 1 game that the Mets lost on a Delgado rocket and with the number of LD outs Beltran has been hitting this year I'm sure he's got a few as well. If they just sucked I would be able to ignore them but it's like they devise new and sick ways to torture the fans with each loss.
either management knows that the team itself isn't any good but they don't know what to do about it, or they actually think the team is good -- neither of which speaks highly of the management. I just keep thinking about the 03 Marlins. Management felt so strongly that the team should have been playing better, despite injuries, that they fired Torborg early to fuel a change. I'm not saying a managerial change will change the team's playing, but I am saying that doing so or not reflects what the management thinks about the team. and keeping Willie clearly indicates that Mets brass either thinks the team isn't any good, that it isn't the manager's performance, and they don't know what to do to change it, or actually think the team is good and will turn it around despite how consistently bad they have shown to be.
This is just unfair..... why are Met and Jet fans tortured like this? This is just bullshit, is it any coincidence that Wagner has blown what 4 saves since he made his comments? I would love to see Beltran tell a beat writer.... "Don't talk to me, I didn't blow 4 saves in 2 weeks"
I don't know Joakim Soria has one blown save all season and he plays for the dam Royals. Wagner is a stupid bastard and he continues to help dig this team into a huge hole. This season is about a week from officially being over.
They have no heart. Willie is a dumb manager. Delgado, castillo, schenider, Perez, Pelfry, Heilman, ALL SUCK no excuses. Beltran And Wright need to step UP!!
Maybe they should shave their heads again. Only they should use straight razors, and start shaving near their throats. Wagner could be the barber!
The problem was the '03 Marlins were a bunch of kids just needing a kick in the pants to set them straight, this team is old, brittle and emotionally fragile.
absolutely there is a huge difference between that Marlins team and this Mets team, but there was also a gaping difference in the front office as well, which is the problem. the Marlins FO not only knew that when things aren't working something has to be done to shake it up, but weren't afraid to make the move. this Mets team is trash. it is. it isn't all Willie's fault, but he is part of it. but Willie aside, the only thing I can think is if the FO actually knows it this team isn't good, that they are waiting for the trade deadline to unload these stiffs when demand will be greater from teams in competition for the playoffs who will make a desperate move. but if the FO actually thinks this team is good, what is keeping them from firing Willie. that was the quandary facing the 03 Marlins FO, and they had the fortitude to say screw it, fire the manager, and let's see if that turns this team around. that is the only logical response a FO can make if they actually believe the players on the field are underperforming. either the players are the problem, the manager is the problem, or both. unfortunately for managers, you don't start getting rid of multiple players first to find out if the manager is any good, you get rid of the manager to see if the players are.
I think you're missing a rather obvious conclusion, the FO knows the team stinks but is so tied to the current roster/manager that there's no choice but to ride out this season and hope something crazy happens. With all the politicking that Omar has done for Willie I don't think he can go in and say "we need to fire Willie to turn around the season" or something to that effect. It's unfortunate that the team has such passive owners that they're going to sit on their hands all season and allow Omar to hover around .500 and maintain the illusion that they have a competitive ballclub. The good news(sort of) is that the Mets farm system is so barren there really isn't alot of damage Omar can do with ill advised trading deadline moves, which you know are coming. There's no way the Mets are sellers at the deadline.
that's my point, management doesn't have the courage to make a daring, in-season move. I agree with you, and unfortunately it won't just ruin this season but will ruin next season by starting over from scratch then when they should get the ball rolling now. the thing is, the worse the Mets get this season, the harder it is going to be to change that next year because not many free agents are going to want to come to the situation. Minaya hasn't just screwed the team's future from a farm standpoint, but his deteriorating clubhouse and the fact that they will have to start over will haunt this franchise for years after he is gone. may as well get that ball rolling now and speed up the process.
I was at a graduation, thank god. I would've gone into cardiac arrest. Something to take solace in is that Wagner was really quite pissed. He wasn't just spewing cliches, which I appreciated. But I read the AP story...it really sounds like we were screwed by random amazing fielding.
Looking over the Mets payroll they really have a ton of money coming off the books next year. They really need to get a new regime in here before Omar ties it all back up in old Latin players again. The other thing that really stands out is how many awful awful contracts Omar has been responsible for. Just the amount of money this year they're paying for woeful underproduction or in some cases no production at all is staggering.
hey i may go again to the game tonight. and if wagner comes in im standing up and cheering him on.this is my team and will not get down on them b/c of a couple of horrible situations.the season is 162 games and it will have its ups and its downs. new york fans suck. id hate to see you guys at a little league game.
This team has done this for longer than 162 games, you are being a homer. Unless something changes drastically, nothing will change. Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. This team is too old, is basically waiting for Willie to get fired, and have found so many ways to lose that it is depressing. And saying the corny retort that the season is long doesn't fly since this isn't some short term trend.
being a homer is rooting for your team through thick and thin? people who constantly complain about bad play should just become bandwaggoners.go root for the red sox or something. do changes need to be made? yes but im not going to boo and curse the team out b/c they are under producing.yes booing bad play is allowed,do i do it yea sure but alot of New York fans are quick to jump on players backs. at the the game wednesday night,in the 13th inning before beltrans home run, david wright fouled out to first.a fan a couple of rows behind me yells WRIGHT YOU SUCK!!! i stood up and turned around and asked if he was fucking kidding me? the bitch turned red and slumped in his chair. he is lucky by the way b/c next was my fists and my 5 year old feet connecting with his face.
I believe the number is $42 million coming off the books between 4 of the most useless bastards on this squad: Alou, Delgado, El Duque, and Pedro. If they don't miraculously pull it together from here on out and get some better luck, I'd put money on Pedro leaving and ending the era of the "new Mets" with Minaya and co. out the door right after him.
No being a homer is one who is delusional about things being alright when they clearly aren't. We won't be this upset if we are simply going to drop the team like a bad habit like a bandwagon fan.
