I watched Episode III for the first time in over a year last night and after being away from it for awhile I really got to appreciate how good it was last night. Really well done movie. Some parts were clearly added to fill the gaps, but I think it was well done. One of the best movies I have watched. It is such a sad movie and it really should be. Great movie.

I actually just started reading "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader" by James Luceno this week. The beginning was a bit tedious, but once it really started showing Vader's mental transformation into a Sith Lord, it really started picking up. It shows why Vader is so stiff when he fights as opposed to Anakin.

the prequels sucked ass, and for that I cant take star wars serious. the way they illustrated the change from anakin to vader was ridiculous. made him look like a little bitch.

the only good thing to come out of the prequels was the explaination of boba fet and yoda being a bad ass.

anything not episode IV-VI is just Lucas cashing in on nostalgia in my opinion. hence this fuckin cartoon network full length feature.

I just assumed it was because of all of his mechanical limbs. Is there another reason?

A lot! They have been making them since the early 90s. The ones they made in the 90s had to do with stuff that happened after ROTJ. The books they have been coming out lately take place during the Clone Wars, After ROTS, Long Before the events of the movies (Stories such as Darth Bane)

Well, that is the reason, but it really looks at why he is so mechanical. Keep in mind, Anakin Skywalker modified starcraft and droids pre-Mustafar. You would think he could modify his own mechanical limbs, given enough time. (I haven't gotten too far yet, so I don't know how this will be addressed.)

There's actually a series that the 9th (and last) book just came out for: Legacy of the Force. My son is reading them. He loves them. They're about the kids of the Rogues. Han and Leia's kids especially.

One of the sons actually got his Sith name via online vote not long ago. I haven't read any of these yet, but I'd like to.

So how was the second Bane book? I can't wait till it comes out later this year in softcover. I was going to buy it hardcover, but I can't find it anywhere anymore. Maybe I'll have to Amazon it.

I'd definitely put a suggestion out on Darth Bane: Path of Destruction.

That's the first of the two (the second is only available in hardcover right now, Darth Bane: Rule of Two, I believe is the name).

Great book if you like the "bad guys".

I'll also disclaim that I haven't read a lot of them, but I have heard many of the stories from my oldest son, who reads them religiously.

Interestingly, if you've played Knights of the Old Republic, you'll recognize some names in the book. I don't know how many guys here have played that though, since it's an RPG (but one of the best overall games I've ever played). It's nothing that will make you scratch your head if you haven't, but just a bonus if you have.

It depends on where you want to pick the story up at. If you want to read some stuff that happens right after Ep. 3 the book Alio is on now is a good one. If you want to start with stuff that happens after ROTJ - Truce at Bakura takes place immediately after the movie. If you want to go way back the Darth Bane books are great.

Alio - I am still reading the 2nd Bane book, but it is really, really good so far. I bought mine at Borders awhile back.

One book that is an absolute definite must read is the Shadows of the Empire. That book takes place between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The book shows what Luke, Leia and Chewie do to try and capture a frozen in carbonite Han Solo.

Yes, Episode III freakin' rules! I wish they kept a few things in the movie though. Like Yoda landing on Dagobah and Yoda talking to the ghostly Qui-Gon Jinn. But other than that it was fantastic!

Other books that are definite reads:

The Thrawn Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command) <- Absolute definites.
The Corellian Trilogy (Ambush at Corellia, Assault on Selonia, Showdown at Centerpoint)
    X-Wing Rogue Squardron
    The Bounty Hunter Wars
And Tales from Jabba's Palace is a neat book.
