    "Us?"

"We" actually "get" very little in the tangible sense from the results of sporting events, unless we bet on them. I get some enjoyment, because, like I said, I like the Jets. Unlike some other people.

    What did you get?

I agree with the sentiment that it really is atrocious that this team has not gotten back to an SB since 69, but I also think those who denigrate the high points since have it all wrong.

I may not have the same perspective as some here, maybe a majority. But for me rooting for the Jets is part of the annual ebb and flow of each year. As the summer winds down we get to follow them each week, going into the winter. Even if they are out of the playoffs, I can muster up an interest in the other teams, usually. But how much I would like the NFL if there were no Jets? It's hard to imagine.

That being the case, it's certainly preferable that the team be competitive. A season where they win more games than they lose is not the best season ever, of course, but it is certainly worth something.

Each game has intrinsic value, especially if you attend, but even if you don't. You want to see them win when you turn on the tv. You obviously should, and I know I do.

Last year was one of the worst ever. I got to the point I could not stand seeing #10 take the field, knowing what was going to happen. Right now, given the feeling during the Herm years that the air was slowly leaking out of the tires, as the OL was let slide and Chad never returned to 02 form, watching the Martin Era wasted, but at least having some high points too, to then have expectations raised by Tanny and Mangini, only to have last season poop the bed, I feel like I really need this team to at least be competitive again.

There are almost certainly too many holes to make it to the SB. But I for one would be thrilled to not have two awful seasons in a row. I know a 10-6 season would not guarantee further improvement in 09. But I do know that another lousy season after the last one would be pretty devastating.

Disappoinment because like every year since 01/12/69 they have been losers. The worst part of it is that thru out all those years except for 1 or 2 here or there they NEVER even fielded a team worthy of even a shot at the SB. You may a youngie so you may not know of those crapola teams like I do.

Well, I get disappointment too, that was kind of my whole point to begin with: Its sad that this is arguably the best stretch of Jets football. But I still enjoy watching and rooting for them, and save my anger for things that really merit it.

I may be younger than you, but I've seen a lot of bad football, and I have a very good memory.

Speaking of which, why didn't you ever reply to this:

You do realize your going to get a slew of emails with people saying you have to make the playoffs to have a shot blah, blah, blah! They will say we made it in 06, 04 and 02 and had a shot just because we were there.

Thanks do not really care cause they should know by now that me & any FB fan has to know you have to make the POs to reach the SB. The difference naturally is do you have a SB caliber team & in the years you mentioned + others that has NOT been the case. In fact that is why we have been losers since 01/13/69

How else do you suggest we get to a Super Bowl without first getting in the playoffs? You have an alternate route you'd like to share with the group?

The route would be to get there with a team like the one in 98 when we had a legit shot at a title and not an obligatory one and done first round playoff loss en route to the 25th pick of the draft that usually amounts to nothing in Jetsville! We want a playoff berth with a Team with Talent and not one that was the best of the worst. One that can match up player for Player with the Pats, Colts, Chargers etc, etc! One where we can compare our players to the ones across the line from us and not come up with were screwed at the end of the day.

Ah maybe building a SB caliber team that does not get evicted in the early rounds of the POs maybe?

And you're the first two guys to think of this? Don't you think all 32 teams are trying to do the same thing and only one can actually do it in a given year? And out of the 32 only 12 can get to the next step and play for the title? You guys have somehow twisted being one of those 12 teams into being a bad thing. You have to be one of those 12 to have a chance to win the Super Bowl, there is no other way. Wild Cards have won, #6 seeds have won, you have to be in it to win it, fellas.

So you're better off not being in it then? What is the point? What great revelation do the two of you have that everyone else is missing?

Here are the goals of every NFL team every year:

    1-make the playoffs
    2-win the Super Bowl

You can't get to #2 without #1, the end.

Those wildcard teams have better talent that we have fielded and hof players or great ones that put it together. We have not had that. The Giants have a great young Line and a good Qb who put it together at the right time. We don't have anything close to what they had on that D-line in any of the above mentioned playoff years. The Steelers had a great O-line, Future Hof Reciever in Hines Ward, Future Rb in Bettis and a veteran team that was ready to win. We had a Hof Rb in Curtis Martin and a few lucky bounces to get us into the playoffs. Those teams were on par with the teams they beat to get to the Sb we were not.

Yes what you missing is you get to #1 without a whole bunch of talent but not to #2 unless you have the talent. My years have told me that most fans do not understand that concept which seems to be the way most on this board think. However, in the end you are the same no matter if you go 0-16 or 4-12 or 8-8 or 18-1 as the Pats were last year. All LOSERs only the NYGs were WINNERs. That is what sports are you either a WINNER or LOSER there is NO IN BETWEEN just ask Big Brown if you doubt that statement

Let's hope your not sitting here bitching about the same thing 20 years from now! From the looks of things you have at least 3 more years before we have a legit shot.
