Yes that is why I cannot understand that is such a resistance to at least try to upgrade to reach the elite of the NFL. You know my ideas that going 10-6 & exiting in the 1st round of the POs is the same as 18-1 & losing the SB. As I have said over & over once I see that we have finally cleaned out all the 2nd & 3rd tier players on the team & replaced them with 1st tier players I will no longer have to point out the very obvious weakness that exist on the team.

Who exactly is resisting them trying to improve the team? We all want the same thing, obviously, I don't see anyone saying don't try to improve. It's all we talk about here. Nobody's plan going in is 10-6 and losing in the playoffs, but most of realize doing that puts us a lot closer to the goal than going 4-12. To say it's all the same is inaccurate. Any time you can get to the playoffs and take your best shot to win it all you try to do so.

Nah that is where I think you & most others derail. Going 10-6 one year is NOT a guarantee the next year of going 12-4. Just ask the SB3 winning NYJs or the 82 NYJs that lost to Miami. Once you accept that medicore record of 10-6 you are saying that it no longer matters if we exit the POs in round 1 or even miss them al together buuuuuuuuuuut we had a winning record which in the end meant zero just as the 18-1 has meant to the NEPs

No, that's not what I'm saying, I never said anything is guaranteed. But if you go to the playoffs you've at least given yourself a chance to go to and win the Super Bowl. If you don't you have no chance. There are different levels of satisfaction when it's over, of course going to the playoffs alone is not the same as winning it all. I'm a Devils fan, they've won three Cups and it is definitely something else all by itself, but even in the years they don't win I'd still rather have been in the playoffs and made a good run at it.

I think the key is is having a team that not only gets to the playoffs but goes over a decent time frame each year and has a realistic chance of winning the Sb when you get there. In 2006 alot of things fell into place perfectly and alot of guys overachieved. Realistically we went to the playoffs but had no shot to win. I want a team like the Colts, Pats or Chargers that field a team with good players that know anything less than the Sb is unacceptable and that have the talent to get there and win it. I want to maybe have to worry about replacing one or two guys as opposed to overhauling the whole defense every two years.

Whats truly sad is that we've just finished the most successful ten year stretch in franchise history, and in that time, the Patriots have won three super bowls.

I have the records from 1997-2006 in front of me. To post the past 15 years would take some time for me.

From 1997-2006, the Jets had a .588 winning percentage at home. Six AFC teams had a worse mark (Buffalo, San Diego, Oakland, Cincinnati, Houston, and Cleveland). Eight NFC teams had a worse mark (Giants, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Arizona, Carolina, and New Orleans).

Since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, the Jets and Texans are the only AFC teams to have a sub-.500 winning percentage in home games. The Jets are 136-154-1 at home since 1970. The Texans have been 20-28 at home.
The Panthers, Buccaneers, Cardinals, and Saints are also under .500 at home since the merger. The Falcons are right at .500.

    Screw you, dude!

Do not insult our Jets with a statement like that on our board.

In NO WAY are the Jets one of the worst franchises in sports.

let me school you, young man, as somone who was alive back in the day.

The Jets won the Super Bowl in 1969 and changed the world. So o mater what ever happens, the Jets can NEVER, EEEEVVVER be considered "one of the worst franchises in sports."

Not only that, but the Jets had a great year during the shortened strike season, and throughout those early 1980s seasons. We were jsut one game away from the Super Bowl when that rat bastard Don Shula turned his home field into mud and destroyed our dreams that year.

The Jets also came back into the playoffs throughout he late 1980sand early 1990s. Cheez whiz, who can forget 10-1 with Ken O'Brien, and that wonderful game against the Dolphins? (Watch it on ESPN Classic if you ever get the chance.)

And let's not forget the Parcells years. (although... If he had ONLY started Ray Lucas a few games earlier in the season... Who know what could have happened?)

And let's not forget the excitement we had when Keyshawn Johnson was taken first overall... We thought we had a shot at the Super Bowl that year! And Mangini's first season.

I could name more great moments in recent Jets history. NO TEAM that is "one of the worst franchises in sports" can name great moments like these.

I like being a Jets fan and have enjoyed all these great moments. And it is for reasons like this that I wonder about the "player-haters" and other negative-type people on this board.

Can we kick this jerk off the board???

    Man, I am mad!

Sounds like you ought to live in Russia or China where you cannot express your opinion. Is not one of the rights that every American has is to state what they think. Actually I think with your backward thinking you should be thrown off the board rather then the poster you want banned

We won the division twice and won a couple of wildcard playoff games. These are the good old days for our Jets. The seventies were indescribably worse, as were the Joe Walton and Bruce Coslet days.

being a jet fan prepares you for purgatory: you occasionally get a glimpse of heaven, but mostly, you have a birdseye view of hell.

Thats a very personal question. What one person gets out of rooting for his favorite team may be very different from what someone else does.

Speaking only for myself, I like the Jets.
