Let me get this straight...when defenses blitz 5-6 guys, does that mean you are guaranteed to get a sack or an interception if one of the defender breaks the block? Infact, given the circumstances, KC was supposed to be over protective of the ball and not just a lob in the air. The defender came straight down the middle. It was'nt like he was on KCs blind side and KC could'nt catch him coming. He saw pressure immediately, but waited just that extra one fourth of a second that caused the int. He was late on hitting Brad Smith, he was late getting rid of it.
Agreed it was a bad decision created by pressure. That's the point of pressure. I'm not sure for a young QB going through a terrible season why that isn't a just part of the learning process? Considering our veteran QB who is accurate, has pocket presence and experience was making incredibly stupid decisions with far less pressure that cost us multiple games, I don't see why this is even an issue? Why do we want a pressure D? It's to force mistakes and create turnovers and advantagous situations. What is the best way to put a pressure D on its heels? Make it cover as much space as possible. How do you do that? Quick release and the ability to strike large sections of the field quickly. Clemens has shown the physical ability to make pressure D's pay. He has had a few lessons about how being indecisive can be deadly not just by the INT but the broken rib. All good stuff as far as I'm concerned.
It is part of the learning process, I never said give up on kellen. he took his lumps last year, hopefully he learns from '07 and gets better. he has a tremednous opportunity in front of him.
Look at it this way. If the Pic didn't happen, the Baker fumble didn't happen, the offense played a little better the Jets would have won 5 games, and Gholston would be a Pat. It's history. All that really matters now is what starts happening in September.
Yeah, you guys sure didn't put that one all on the QB, did you? You missed the point entirely, all I ask is that you evaluate both QBs the same way, which most of you are completely unable to do. But then again, you were on here last week complaining about Tom Brady's "choking" and "diminished performance", so what is the sense of trying to have a reasonable discussion with you about either of our QBs? At the end of last season most of you geniuses were convinced Pennington wouldn't even still be on the team by now, so you're already wrong heading into camp. I'm sure you'll all continue to be off base throughout camp and the season, I'm counting on you guys.
In your opinion has the team improved enough during the off season for Chad to take us deep into the playoffs?
Hard to say in June. On paper they addressed most of their glaring needs, we'll have to see how it goes on the field and how the draft picks pan out. The D hopefully is improved and I think either of our QBs can have success if we can block, run and catch. If we get to the playoffs it comes down to a play or a kick here and there to see how far we go, not always the QB.
The good thing is we will know exactly what we have in our Qb this year after the second weeks game v.s. Ne and third weeks prime time game v.s. S/D. We will know beyond a reasonable doubt if Chad is done or if Kellen can cut it early this year.
Maybe. As long as both guys are here there is going to be conversation if we don't win. For the sake of argument, let's say one of them wraps up the starter's job by the Giants pre-season game. You don't think if that guy--whichever one it is--starts to falter and we're 1-3 or 1-4 that people won't start speculating on the other guy coming in to turn it around? In New York? I think things will only be settled when one guy or the other goes in and starts winning games. Just like last year or any other year.
I think it is the no win scenario until one leaves. If Kellen wins the Job and does not perform people will get pissed and say he was a bust and Chad was so bad that Kellen won the job. If Chad wins nobody will want to see Kellen because they will say he was not good enough to beat out Chad. If whoever starts does not have the team going in a positive direction by mid season there will be screams for Ainge to come in. The only soulution is for one of these guys to go so the team can move on. If not we will be having this same conversation this time next year.
The other solution is for the guy who wins the job to then win games. Nobody will say shit if we're winning. People stopped crying to get Glenn Foley into games about three weeks after Vinny took over because Vinny won games. Same thing with O'Brien back in the 80s, once we started winning in 1985 there were no more calls for Pat Ryan to start and he remained the backup for another five years. Losing is what causes problems, not having two good QBs on the roster. You almost need two good QBs, look at last year, neither guy made it half a season without having to come out injured.
Even if Chad gets us to the playoffs and loses in the first or second round you will still have people saying he was given a team that was supposed to win we have been here before and he has reached his peak and it is time to move on. Until we have a solid starter and backup and no controversy there will never be peace regarding our Qb Situation.
I could be right on spot with this, but, even if he takes us the Super Bowl AND WINS, I feel you'd still be calling for a "solid starter" next season.
That would require us having one of the greatest defenses of all time along with a top 5 running game. It could happen though.
The only people who would want Chad out after going to the second round of the playoffs (again) are the hardcore haters on this board who have wanted him gone no matter what happens, like you. Unless you think all 31 teams that don't win the Super Bowl must change QBs, which makes no sense, I don't know how anyone would justify that. Obviously the goal is to win the Super Bowl, but in order to do that you must first reach the playoffs. If either QB gets us there I don't see how people should be complaining. That's why there was no QB competition in camp last year, because we had an established starter who had taken us to the playoffs. Fans on message boards can cry all they like, an NFL coach isn't looking to bench a guy who can put him in position to compete for the Super Bowl.
Until we get Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Tony Seragusa, Warren Sapp, Ed Lynch, Derrick Brooks or somebody that resembles those guys on our Defense that is not going to happen. If Chad gets us to the Sb win or lose he gets a pass!
You're right, it could very well happen. I'm just saying, some people don't think we have gotten better AS A TEAM until Pennington is off the team and we make a competition between a guy who had 8 games experience behind a shitty line, a FA brought in to learn a brand new system to them and a Rookie. Just seems fucking dumb! I'm not of in any QB club, (but honestly, I'd like to be in the Clemens club) I simply like to consider myself in the "May the Best QB Play" club. Whoever that is, I'll let the CS make that decision. Of course, if the team starts struggling people are going to want the alternative, but Jesus, can we cross that bridge when we get there. All this If-Clemens-wins-the-competition-we-should-cut-Chad nonsense is just getting ridiculous.
Okay. Great. I don't think we're really off base thinking we're NOT gonna go to the Super Bowl this year, let alone win. So, why wouldn't u be happy with a win or two in the post-season which is within our expectations? That just means the team is headed in the right direction. This is what we have on the team right now! Which QB can we possibly get, or bring in right now that will make me wanna go out and buy "New York Jets XLIII Super Bowl Champtions" t-shirts?!
