If there was ever such thing as a Holy Day of Obligation, this is it. When he got signed... WEEEEEEEE! Happy Birthday, Joe. Hah, when I was in High School, I asked the old man, "So, when's your birthday?" "May 31st." "That's Joe Namath's birthday." "Um, what?" He became immediately cooler by default. Just like Bobby Brady, who became immediately cooler just by breathing the same air. I'm sure there's something going on on the Kissing Suzy Kolber blog today.
Thank U JWN for engineering the only championship this franchise has had since its inception. The great memories of that day & all the days that followed until KC beat us are still there so HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you
I think she means that when it comes to the Jets, you are the equivalent of the guy who puts all children under 8 on a mailing list detailing the reasons why Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy aren't real. She means that you are the guy's headshot in a porn movie. She means that you are rain at a picnic. She means that you are a cancelled snow day.
Just checking your vital signs. One of my very favorite Jets photos ever. Namath, Snell, and Weeb all breathing the same oxygen. I feel woozy
Because if you ain't bitter, the world ain't right. Hmm, or did you mean why do I feel woozy...? Oh, I dunno. Probably for the same reason as...THIS!
May 31 is also the birthday of former Jets Richard Wood and Tom Coombs. Wood was the Jets 3rd round pick in 1975. He played in all 14 games that year and started 5 of them at right outside linebacker. I'm not sure if the Jets traded him or exposed him to the expansion draft, but he played for the Buccaneers in 1976 and stayed there through the 1984 season. Wood played for two national championship teams at Southern California (1972 and 1974) and then he played for some garbage NFL teams for a few seasons before the Buccaneers started to be good in 1979 and hosted the NFC Championship Game. 1971 USC: 6-4-1 1972 USC: 12-0-0 1973 USC: 9-2-1 1974 USC: 10-1-1 1975 Jets: 3-11 1976 Bucs: 0-14 1977 Bucs: 2-12 1978 Bucs: 5-11
