http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10827499 I just believe that it will be KC at the start of the season but unsure who will end the season.
I like the quote below: Obviously he hasn't checked out any Jets message boards where everyone blamed Chad and some still blame Herm:rofl:
it is just amazing how excuses are made for CHAD and Kellen gets indicted for playing better then Pennington behind the same woeful OL; lack of WR's; no power run game! If the receivers held onto a few passes, Kellen should have won 5 games! Err ,Chad won 1. Kellen had no experienced receivers at the time. Chad did! In preseason last year, Kellen outplayed CHAD yet, CHAD was annointed the starter! If that happens this year, Kellen will start!
Please tell me what you base your opinion on that Clemens played better. He was far, far worse than Pennington in every QB stat that exists. Just look it up. If he had played better there wouldn't be a competition at all and Pennington would probably be playing for another team this year.
It was his first taste of the NFL so you throw last year out and see how he plays now that he knows what to expect. Chad has no so execuses. You chad aploigist are incredible. Was the offensive line at fault when Chadly threw all those 4thqtr. interceptions like a rookie QB would do. If Clemens sucks this year, no execuses!!!
Chad was 1-8, Kellen 3-4 behind the same line. That's what is most important. Don't forget Chad had the Bengals, 2xBills and Giants games where he was in a position to win and blew it.
I'm not apologizing at all for Pennington. I am one of the few people here who can readily admit that both of our QBs suck. Too bad nobody else can. To say Clemens now knows what to expect is ridiculous. What did he do for that year and a half? Watch the cheerleaders from the opposing team? We should have done whatever was necessary to get Flacco in the draft and we could have easily done that if we tried.
The defense won the Pittsburgh game, not Clemens and KC threw the final game, just look up the plays they called in the situations they were in which means they both beat Miami...wow. The game Clemens should have won was the NE game when the defense held them to their lowest point total of the year by far and he blew it.
Im sorry don but didnt clemens get knocked out of that game on the second play?? I am pulling for Clemens to be the starter. I like both these guys they both have their upsides and downsides, which have been beaten to death on this board way to many times to count. But Clemens deserves his shot to run the team.
Yep, I'm totally wrong on that game and will freely admit that Pennington should have won it. He should have won the Tennessee game too.
I believe Clemens just has to show improvement in a few areas of his game and the job is his. But let's not just whitewash his issues while piling on Chad. First, Kellen must improve his pocket presence. He did a poor job getting a fell for the pass rush even when he knew it was coming. There were multiple "deer in the headlights" moments for him. Even better pass protection is not going to help him when he inevitably faces pressure. Clemens must develop a better feel in the pocket and gain a greater command of what is going on downfield. Not all the sacks were the O line's fault. A raw QB who held the ball too long and showed a great deal of indecision also was a factor. The other aspect that must improve is finishing drives. The old Parcells crede that the QB must get the team in the end zone is a fact. Kllen needs to keep the chains moving and finish off drives with 7 points. He simply didn't do that enough last season. Chad is the front runner now simply because, when healthy, he does a better job. But Chad is the constant in this equation. We know his level. Kellen has the upside. In essence'its Clemens' job to lose. If he shows the improvements needed to be a good QB, the job will be his. But it will not just be handed to him.If we want the Jets to be a 10 win team, then Chad is our man. If we want to reach the next level, then Kellen has to play like a top level QB combining the game mangement and smarts of Pennington with the added threat of downfield throwing.
Yeah excuses were made for Chad which is why all you guys have done on these boards is mention how poorly other players played around kellen and didn't allow those same excuses for Chad. Last year was the FIRST year a healthy Chad didn't lead us to the playoffs. Chad stunk last year but so did Kellen. The team around them stunk for both, they'll battle it out and the better QB will be the starter. Don't bet against Chad. he did after throwing a horrible INT for a TD. We lost by 10 and he gave up 7 of the points plus McCareins had a big drop deep in NE territory but drops only are excuses for kellen, right?(that's not directed at you by the way). W/ all the improvements around the QB BOTH should be alot better this year. Clemens had his learning curve as a 1st year player. he didn't show us much but he survived. I think both will play very well in camp and make this a difficult decision.
I think you found a new angle on our hated QB debate. If both QBs will be capable of doing well with the improved team, then we should be fine with whoever is under center.... but- and here's where the debate will never end- who gives us the better record?
Based on history it's Chad b/c Clemens doesn't have much of a history but history would have told us we were better off w/ Vinny in 2002 so we just don't know until Clemens gets a real shot. if I was betting I would say Chad, I still have confidence in him but we'll see. I just want to win, I don't care who plays and chances are both will play major roles b/c it's rare we ever have a QB play 16 games.
Lets think Chad is the better guy and then have Kellen start and win a division, just like 2002...:drunk:
Last year was the time for that. Chad led us to 10 wins and a WC berth then we struggled early in '07 but it wasn't meant to be.
What about they both win. Let pennington run the dink and dunks and play actions while TJ and LW shred defenses with our new o-line and then bring in Kellen for 3rd and long situations and occasionally on first and second down to keep defenses guessing. Everyone uses the two back sytem why not use a two QB system?
A very fair post, which I completely agree with. Competition between the two is a good thing. By the seasons first game we will have a much better idea of where we stand.
This FO is incompetent if they really don't think it's Clemens's position to lose. They know what a noodle armed Qb they have in Chad. They know other D's know how to play him and wait for his wounded ducks on third down. They know that level of play is not enough to get it done in the NFL. They know Chad has no even medium term future, let alone long term. They know Clemens got next to no support last year, yet still won three times as many games as Pennington. They know the playbook was developed for Chad, and they did not have much available to play to Clemens's strengths. Knowing all that, if they really believe in a fair competition that Clemens is no more likely to win than Chad, then they should have done something to get a better Qb in there this off season. Make a trade, do something. They didn't. Didn't even try. The other article about Chad being unhappy said the Jets did not want to trade him. They said they would see who was interested, and no one was. Did anyone here the slightest bit of interest expressed by any team in Chad this off season? Imo it says alot that there was no interest whatsoever by other teams in Chad.
