On Feb. 2, 2008, the Boston Herald reported that a member of the New England Patriots [team stats]’ video staff taped the St. Louis Rams’ walkthrough on the day before Super Bowl XXXVI. While the Boston Herald based its Feb. 2, 2008, report on sources that it believed to be credible, we now know that this report was false, and that no tape of the walkthrough ever existed. Prior to the publication of its Feb. 2, 2008, article, the Boston Herald neither possessed nor viewed a tape of the Rams’ walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI, nor did we speak to anyone who had. We should not have published the allegation in the absence of firmer verification. The Boston Herald regrets the damage done to the team by publication of the allegation, and sincerely apologizes to its readers and to the New England Patriots [team stats]’ owners, players, employees and fans for our error. I like how they only apologize to the Patriots, not to St. Loius who was actually led to believe that they had a Superbowl cheated away from them. MORE MEDIA BIAS!!!!! j/k
Haha, apologize to the fans and the organization. Please don't make me puke. The only thing worse than this entire sham is the 1918 World Series, except those guys went to jail for being stupid. And I hate baseball.
Yeah the, illegal means of doing something legal (stealing signals) is completely worse than artificially enhancing strength through PEDs.
Walsh did watch their walk through but somehow this tape that they supposedly had disappears and now they apologize the same day that Walsh talks to Goodell. It's all fishy but it's time to move on, obviously the Pats gained an advantage doing what they were doing or they wouldn't have done it but the Commish slapped them on the wrist and it's over w/.
It's remarkable how this incredibly obvious point is constantly denied or minimized, particularly when you consider that they did it consistently for years. I don't view losing a 1st round draft choice as necessarily only a slap on the wrist, although if Goodell had had any guts, he would have taken away the pick at #7 rather than the pick at #31. In any event, I certainly agree that it's time to move on, since nothing more will ever happen.
I think you are talking about the 1919 world series and nobody went to jail, they were all found innocent. They were however banned from baseball for life because of it. Today that would have never stood with all the lawyers we have.
rofl you guys cheated. gimme a fuckin break. i love how its proven their was tapes from the AFC Championship game vs the Steelers and absolutely nobody talks about that. we cant find the tapes of them cheating in the super bowl but cheating on the way there is no problem. funny how after months of the tape exisiting its all of a sudden a "just kidding" matter. right............. this whole fiasco is now damage control for the NFL's merchandise and marketing, be lucky kraft can pay his way out of anything.
That's why he is a great owner .. Sneaky Kraft .. I love it .. All smoke and mirrors, and there is nothing you can do about it ..:metal:
Why did these morons publish a fake story then? They just made this up? How do these people keep their jobs? The media is unbelievable.
I'm pretty sure that the Goodell said stealing signals were against NFL policy in the news conference yesterday.
Stealing signals with video, and then lying by saying you "misinterpreted" the rules, is certainly against NFL policy.
I swear you Boston fans are fucked up in the head. By your logic: The illegal means of doing something legal, like sex, well that is called rape.
VIDEOTAPING OFFENSIVE AND DEFENSIVE SIGNALS ARE AGAINST THE RULES. Spin it however you want. You guys got caught CHEATING, lied, got caught in a lie. Goodell did a great job protecting the 'product'. Again, the joke is on the fans that support this league.
Has anyone stopped to wonder why the Patriots' film crew was on the field for the Rams' walkthrough in the first place?
To begin with, I definitely worded that badly but my point is that this little fiasco is nothing close to plenty of other things clear and present in just in the last few years. Stealing signals isn't illegal. Using video to steal those signals is, which is where this entire thing started. After all this time and speculation, it was only recently that I asked the question why taping signals isn't legal. But back to my point: this isn't the worst thing since the Black Sox Scandal. Talk about PEDs and the NFl's lax steroid policy which is exactly the same that cycling used to have. And about the fact that testing positive for steroids only nets a player a 4 game suspension. Hell since you mentioned baseball what about that little bump in the road for the NBA when it was discovered that an official was completely corrupt? At best this wasn't handled well by the NFL and at worst the NFL has tried to cover up some shady things that other former coaches have admitted to doing. That still doesn't come close in terms of corrupting the integrity of the game as much as having a referee is shaving points or having a player artificially enhancing his body.
