Maddux is a strange case. Some of his numbers are truly amazingly great (7 straight years with an ERA below 2.75, 6 of those below 2.40; lifetime WHIP of 1.15, with 10 years below 1.1 and 4 below 1.0; etc.), but he never won more than 20 (and only reached 20 twice) despite playing for winning teams most of his career. Does he turn out to rank above Tom Seaver on the alltime list? Given all of the other stuff, does he rank over Roger Clemens?
I'd rank him over Clemens. btw, Estes making his first start since 2006 tonight. Missed last season after Tommy John surgery. Padres called him up from the minors. Estes vs. Marquis at Wrigley Field. Over/under is 12.5, the highest I've seen all season.

Estes and Marquis got hit hard early, but it settled down and the bullpens did a good job. 12.5 was a really high number (higher than I've ever seen), but I expected fireworks. Estes beat his former team, which happens to be easily leading MLB in runs scored (14 runs ahead of second place Red Sox).
ok, small sample size obviously, but with players with more than 75 MLB at bats, Micah Owings is FOURTH all time in OPS. Ruth, Ted Williams, and Gehrig are ahead of him. At my last check, Owings was slightly ahead of BSB.

that's right. Anyway, that's twice this week that Arizona cost me big time. Losing to the Marlins with Webb and Haren! C'mon! Miller showed some of the huge promise he has tonight.
