the final match of the world cup must be a single event in itself - as well as the final match of the champions league is? Of course wc matches are played in a span of 3 weeks not 8 months...

One of the Worlds biggest single Sportsevents...Probably the biggest after SB, WCF, Rugby WCF, Cricket WCF, World Series, NBA Finals, Final Four, PGA tours and 100 meter dash w/hurdles in a local tourney.

JK, but yeah, it is probably the second biggests sports event in Europe after WCF, and third biggest in US after SB and WCF...imo...

The cumulative audience of the 2006 World Cup — including all of the 64 matches — is estimated to be 26.29 billion (thats an average of more than 400 million). 715.1 million individuals watched the final match of this tournament (a ninth of the entire population of the planet). The 2006 World Cup draw, which decided the distribution of teams into groups, was watched by 300 million viewers.

The last SB had an estimated 148.3 million viewers worldwide...

I went to last year's Athens Final and I know that nothing I ever attend will ever come close to it. It's not just the game; it's the atmosphere days before and after the actual game. Not even a Superbowl can come remotely close to it

That's awesome. If I study abroad next year, I'll hopefully be able to catch random games throughout Europe.

...yeah well if Terry wouldn't have headed that ball away, there wouldn't have been a shootout.

If Terry didn't slip that was in. The goalie was completely fooled.

I'm glad Ronaldo's bitch ass missed his PK. That was an illegal stop anyway.
