What we don't have is what separates really good teams from average teams, and that is a WR who can stretch the field. The perfect compliment to a running team, a play action team, is a fast WR who can keep the D from crowding the line. I like Coles and Cotch, and the Keller pick is growing on me, but who is the speed guy? Maybe they will address this next year but as of right now we don't have one.
Dude, this thread has got nothing to do with the QB and especially not a QB debate. Its simply, 'do we have a good enough WR corps' thread. Then again this was not announced by TanGini in his press conference so you would'nt know. Anyways we have a good WR corps. But I think we need to bring one more #3 WR. JMac was an ok #4 but dropped far too many catches. Not that TO catches everything thrown rite into his hands. We have been missing that solid #3. Hopefully Stucky or Brad Smith will cover that spot. The addition of Keller should be great but I just think we need more incase someone goes down. Plus Coles is getting old and relatively slow now.

It's completely naive to think that a debate about wideouts has nothing to do with the QB, are you kidding me? Evaluating your wideouts is nice if you are playing some fantasy nonsense, but if you're going to evaluate your passing game, then all factors come into play. Chemistry, experience, ability to play in a scheme. These don't involve the QB??? Hang your head in shame.
Those were all below average teams, actually well below average teams. I said what makes an average team above average is the fast WR. Look at Chicago the year before, when they actually had a running game, they had Berrian stretching the field. Or look at the Pats this past year with Moss. Even though the Pats were above average before Moss they became nearly unbeatable with him. You have to be able to stretch the field and keep the Safeties honest.
Truthfully i would love to pick up Chris Henry he solidify our Wr corps but I know that with all his problems ppl are gonna say no and go crazy if we even gave him another shot. But he is not as bad as Pacman and hes still in the NFL i dont knw how wen he goes to strip clubs more than he practices or plays.
Exactly. Dude just had an 82 catch 1,130 yard season on a team with a crappy passing game. I like how he actually got knocked from being able to get away from the best cover cornerbacks. 1. Thats why they're the best cover corners and 2. who says? It doesn't even sound Bosko's seen any Cotchery play so how'd he reach that conclusion?
DWare you are so right. Cotch showed up on 07 -- just like TJ. Both performances were exceptional in light of the miserable context of the overall team's performance. Cotch has always talked about how much he benefited from Coles' catching all the heavy coverage. Also, Coles was sent on a lot of decoy fly routes (by his own admission and complaint by the way) this year in order to free up Cotch. However, Cotch was still able to be productive in a year when Coles was damaged goods. This speaks volumes on Cotch's coming of age.
Thought this was quite an interesting point. Is there anway we could get him the damn ball next season?
Yea a QB and a line will do it, he also needs to be healthy all year. I expect an 06 form to this team, there is no reason not to be with the FA acquisitions.
Cotch reminds me alot of Anquan Boldin. He's a 1B kind of WR whose best attributes are his kickass hands and his toughness all over the field. Neither of them are great deep threats, but both excel in making a 10 yard catch a 15+ yard gain. I love those kinds of WRs...give those kind of guys speed and you have a TO or Andre Johnson. It's like the next level down from those guys as far as physical skills, but its still possible to get similar production from them. What we need is to get him a big tall mofo to pair with.
lets just hope and pray, that coles and cotch dont get hurt, if they dont, we'll be fine, we are not gonna be a predominate passing team anyways, and keller should help in what passing we do
So does the evaluation of a WR involve how good the OL is? What you're saying is, it does. Cuz OL protects the QB so he can throw the ball to him. Do the CB skills matter when evaluating a WR? Once, you are telling me it does. This thread is purely based on how good our WRs are. Not how good the passing game is. Hang my head in shame? I've been doing that since the end of a 4-12 season. If you have'nt been doing that, then maybe start doing it until we reach a respectable season.
i honestly don't think 06 even touches this team in talent, do you? i think if health isn't an issue playoffs are almost expected.
true, but i was specifically targeting Coles, then the rest of the team. Almost expected is a good term to use. Due to the QB questions I can see this team being a fringe Wild Card team. Anything less would be a problem.
Those fellows are my two favorite players in the league. I really liked both of them in college and wanted both to be drafted by the Jets. At least they took one of them.
Spot on. There was one attribute you left out, they can hit too. As an ex DB, I f'n hated playing against those kinds of WRs...crackback!!! OUCH!!
Yep. While I like Steve Smith type guys, I prefer a physically dominating player moreso. Why go around what you can go through amirite?
