I think we can all agree both QB's, along with the rest of the team, looked terrible last year. This is a new year, with an improved supporting cast. Clemens will be given a fair shot to win the starting job, as will Pennington. Ainge will be given a fair shot to make the team, and nothing more. My guess is Pennington wins the job. Either way, once a starter is named, can we stop all this incessant whining?
I'd like to see the number of game winning drives the top % QB has compared to the rest of that list.
Yeah, well, in a way you and I, BacktoQueens, absolutely agree wholeheartedly. Any QB on the roster will have a fair chance in this competition, believe me. The ones who can will be left and the ones who cannot will be behind. That's the best way to do it, if you want the team to buy in on these "momentous" decisions.
NDmick, now you know as well as I do, that you can make statistics say any damned thing you can think of. Statistics are just mechanical liars, they don't know the name or location of truth.
NUMBERS DON'T LIE. One plus one will always be equals to two unless you have a bias against the number two. Then one plus one can be anything in your book. Completion percentage is NOT the only measure of success for QB's although it is a pretty telling one. The entire league knows Penny doesn't have a cannon for an arm and the Jets' opponents during the above-mentioned period have adjusted their defensive game plans accordingly. But yet Penny still managed to have such a completion percentage. Could it be that he managed to find a way to get it done? There are a lots of factors that goes into defining the success of a QB. But in the end only the "W's" count.....and it takes more than just the QB to make that happen.
Thats why accountants who balance sports franchise checkbooks can make it look like a team lost 10 Million when they really gained 20. I've seen it done. Thats the fun with #'s. You're right, CP's completion % makes him an accurate passer..... and looking behind that, there's really nothing else.
You really cant throw a rookie 5th round pick out there after all the $$ the Jets dropped on free agents. Its a win now mentality and the best course of action would be to start Pennington, or at least Clemens who has 2 seasons under his belt.
Why bother with game winning drives? He can't do jack in the red zone to begin with. Any game winning drive he has is likely due to the fact that he couldn't get the team in the end zone earlier in the game. :drunk:
I don't have a problem with Chad's completion percentage. I have a problem with the fact that he can't finish off games in the 4th quarter without throwing an interception somehow. He fails under pressure, almost every time.
I base my assumption on veteran leadership and knowledge... Pennington may not have an arm but he has knowledge of the game I know he was real bad last year but I would give him another shot over a late round QB. After Drew for the Pats, they had no other QB. And how many Qbs have been drafted late that had as much success as Brady.... not many or none I'm sure
I think anyone who says this is a worthless thread is missing the point: A lot of New York jets fans (including myself) are concerned abut the QB situation going into this situation. The Jets do not have an established QB outside of CP, but he is damaged goods. To wit: He's had surgery on a rotator cuff--not just once, but twice. These injuries usually end an athlete's career. His QB rating is currently 88--not so great anymore. He's had other injuries: ankle, calf, wrist, etc. No offense to Chad, who has had some great games for the Jets, but I can see why anyone would want a healthy QB as opposed to one who's been injured as much as CP. The biggest problem the NY Jets have is that, despite all the money spent on free agents and draft picks... We do not have a better QB on the roster than Chad. And this is a terrifying prospect, really. It looks like another 4-12/6-10 season, maybe 8-8 at best...
That's when the real whining will begin. Chadinites will walk into the ocean in Mass if Clemens gets the job and those who want anyone but Chad will guge their eyes out on the first 3.5 yard touch pass to Coles.

How do you know we don't have a better QB then Chad? You are giving up on Clemens after 8 starts with the horrible offensive line and Coles and Cotch being out? Give me a break. You are obviously a Chad aploigist. Maybe Clemens will suck, who knows? But geez give the guy a chance. He's are only hope to take over the Pats.
Chad apologist? Did you actually read the above? I think he's damaged goods. I'm willing to give Clemmens the benefit of the doubt at this point, as last year was not a good situation for an opening audition. Unfortunately I was not impressed. Growing pains and "rookie mistakes" were to be expected, but I was particularly concerned with the lack of progression as the season went on, if anything, regression......Right now he at least represents POTENTIAL, but the tell tale will be how he progresses with an improved supporting cast.
