Give Kellen his due. He's got more time to make it than just this year. Nobody on this CS is going to put in to fire the guy if he gets nipped at the finish line of this competition by Chad Pennington. Actually, I am of the opinion that Kellen is going to do just fine as long as we don't start jamming him into the bottle before he is ready.
Ill start off by saying the crack you are taking is doing a lot of damage to your body. I could see playing Clemens over Chad ,but Ainge? Why, because he is an unknown? Well, what the heck, should I myself start over CP? After all, I am also an unknown. For all you know, the coaching staff could start me at qb and I could do very well. You got to love the unknown.
 holy shit cant believe you dug that up. I hardly remember that but yeah man that was the lamest game of all time.
Touche. But give the crackhead his due and be amenable to open competition at QB during training camp. For all you know, this could be another skinny QB plucked in the late rounds who turns out to be a gem.
I guess you weren't around in 1998 when Vinny took us to the AFC championship in Denver and played awesome and barely lost to Elway and the superbowl champs eh mate??
Quote: "...Do people really not remember how horrendously bad Pennington has been the last few years? He single handedly cost the Jets numerous games last season with interceptions at bad times. His arm and his decision making are both shot, regardless of the state of the OL...." I will ask you _AG_, why do you think you are so at odds with the NYJ CS? Do you really think they would be wasting the team's valuable time with a competition between a mentally lame cripple and a wannabe? Your judgment is warped by a lack of perception of what it is that motivates this CS, in my opinion. Nothing is going to happen on this team that the CS and the FO don't agree to happen. Get with it and enjoy it.
No, I fully expect them to start Clemens, who has the most ability of anyone in camp. Pennington is not a mentally lame cripple, he's just not an NFL starting calibur QB at this point. I think the FO realizes this.
Can you throw a 15 yard out between two defenders with velocity if you don't have your feet perfectly set under you? Why should any Jets fan fear the unkown? Using fear of failure to keep you from striving to reach excellence is a sure sign of being content with mediocrity with no assurance that you won't fail anyway. The crack in my neck of the woods while giving an excellent high hasn't been nearly as good in producing delusions of grandeur or Jets SB with Pennington at the helm.
Last year was a perfect example of it by a very young and inexperienced front office. If they have a real QB competition, whatever that means, it's just more evidence that its going to take a few more years for them to fully learn what it takes to be a great football team. I'm going to assume that the QB competition really means Clemens is the starter unless he totally blows chunks in camp. A real QB competition just means we don't have a real QB and another year has gone by without adequately addressing it.
Who was out there that you would have liked to have brought in this year? Pennington is better than any of the free agent options that were out there. And you have to give Clemens every opportunity this year before you can give up on him.
How many QB's have we passed on the last two drafts? What effort did we make to get either Anderson or Quinn from Cleveland? Todd Collins a career backup played every bit as good getting Washington to the playoffs last year as Chad did in 06. Chad is no better than any of the free agent options, what he is, is a low risk low reward QB who in a mediocre league is smart enough to win against mediocre teams something Todd Collins proved last year isn't all that tough to do and certainly not at 6 million per.
Last two drafts? As in 2007 and 2008? Well....we DID draft Erik Ainge who was high on MY board. I couldn't be happier that we drafted him in the 5th round. Last year how in the world could you even possibly think about drafting a QB when we had no idea what we had with Clemens -who we had drafted in the 2nd round the year before- at that point !?! Poor argument there. What happened with the Redskins last year was bigger than Todd Collins. That team was united and played for Sean Taylor.
Last two meaning 06 and 07. If we had no idea what we had in Clemens, drafting him in the second round would have been pretty stupid for a team that does its homework. And not knowing what you have is not an excuse for not addressing the position it is exactly why you need to address it.
Jet Fans Divided I?ve noticed a trend that has been going on amongst Jets fans these past two seasons. It seems lately there are two types of fans. There are the Chad Supporters and then there are those calling for the Clemens Revolution. If there?s one thing I hate hearing, it?s "Chad dosen?t have an arm". When people say that, I feel like they?re just completly ignorant to how our offense works. Laverneous Coles said it best during an interview with the Post last year in the middle of the teams struggles, "The people who criticize Chad don?t know the game of football.". The philosophy of our offense is to use short, safe passing routes and balance these with a strong running game. This is where people usually say, well we do that because of Chad?s arm strength. No that?s not why. The object is to control the ball for long periods of time and march methodically down the field. With a good offensive line, Chad?s intellegence and precision helps him flourish in this system.
They drafted Clemens in 2006 so they attempted to adress the situation. It's hard to know what you have in Clemens when he didn't have any game experience. So drafting a QB in 2007 would have been STUPID. But what would YOU have done? Please enlighten us
That would mean that same team that has employed a defensive philosophy of bend don't break to reduce the oppositions points because at some point they will make a mistake purpossly has an offensive philosophy of long marches down the field which doesn't break the D but won't make a mistake at some point? Pretty conservative mindset if you ask me. I have a feeling that has something to do with personal and in the offensive case Chad is the key personal that the O is built around.
I would have traded down a few spots or taken DBrick and made him available for Cutler to a team right after us along with getting another pick. I would have taken Mangold and taken the best available tackle either R or L with our second round pick. I loved Cutler in the 06 draft and thought he was great value.
Who would have we been able to trade down with? I liked Cutler in that draft too actually more so than Leinart. But he wasn't good "value" at No. 4, and if we don't have a trading partner then they did the right thing by drafting a stud LT. And they still addressed the QB position in the 2nd round.
We might have been able to move down with SF, more likely Detroit or Oakland? As it turned out Cutler would have been great value at 4 and since it's clear the current regime doesn't draft based on value at least at the top, I don't see the issue with taking him outright particularly in 06 since at the time of the draft they didn't even know if Pennington was viable to play. DBrick while a decent pick and okay player to date with upside, clearly is much further from being a stud LT than Cutler is from being a stud QB in a QB driven league. I'm not sure that makes DBrick a value pick over Cutler although at the time most teams would have considered DBrick the value pick unless of course you didn't have a QB which at the time of that draft the Jets didn't. The basic disagreement we have is you think Chad is a quality QB capable of leading the jets to a SB. Not only do I not think that, I find the games much more boring to watch than they should be. I'm going to root for the Jets on game day no matter what but the truth is I don't think we have a shot to be great with Pennington and I find the particular brand of O we run to be pretty boring to watch. Let's face it the most exciting thing in a Jets game is a kick return.
