My vote goes to Jenkins. I think he will make our whole D better. He is a pro bowl caliber guy who can stop the run and collapse the pocket and keep the linebackers clean.
my vote goes to faneca. he makes our whole oline better, especially in developing two young players in dbrick and mangold.
Like Jenkins. Couple of Pro Bowls. Never played NT, but is built for it, and plays with a NT's attitude. Think he will be the cornerstone of the defense.
I'll choose Jenkins only slightly over Faneca. The right side of the line still scares me a little, and Faneca can't help that. He will however no doubt, make Brick, Mangold, and our running game better. On the other hand, Jenkins immediately helps the guys to his left and right (Ellis and Coleman) by making them occupy fewer blockers as well the guys behind him in the front 7 (Gholston, Harris, Barton, and Pace) in turn by freeing them up to make plays. Also, these guys in turn getting pressure on the QB helps our defense backs. He produces a domino effect that immediately effects everyone on the defense. Faneca could very well have that effect on the offense, but it won't be without Woody playing well on the other side of the line.
Speaking as a fan who keeps a close eye on the Jets, I have to say Faneca. The ability to run the ball well was something you lacked last year, he can give you that and keep you in ahead in games because of it. The Jets lost a lot of games by less than a TD because hte defense couldn't get off the field and, in my opinion, the offense couldn't control the clock when it had the lead.
I picked Keller. I agree about Franca and Jenkins as shown above. But something about this kid does it for me. I hope he turns out to be the explosive weapon the Jets have needed.
As much as I liked adding Faneca, and as much as Gholston is growing on me, I've gotta go with Jenkins. This is a guy who clearly still has the goods but needed a change of scenery, and a more competitive atmosphere, in order to get it back out of him; I think he's going to do phenomenal things next year. Im tempted to give second place to Keller. I know that he isn't likely to see enough playing time to really justify this, but thinking of the way the Chargers attacked the middle of the field with guys like Gates and Jackson, and knowing how our lack of a threat over the middle has limited Pennington (who throws the ball well over the middle and through traffic) and Coles (who has faced bracket coverage as a result of safeties having nothing to guard in the middle) makes me think that this guy could be a big addition to the offense. I like Baker, he's a solid tight end, a good blocker and a nice possession and red zone weapon, but Keller could bring a vertical presence to the TE position that the vast majority of tight ends can't. Honestly though, the fact that there are this many guys who would even be in this discussion is what really excites me. Most offseasons for most teams, the guy you add with the sixth pick in the draft is going to easily win this argument, but we also added one of the leagues best interior Offensive linemen, perhaps the single best interior defensive lineman, a first round tight end with deep speed and run-after-catch ability, and a young OLB whos just hitting his stride. This team figures to be a lot better come September than it was last year.
Any Linemen. Having the worst LG and RT in the league last year makes it easy to pick Faneca or even Woody. Jenkins is a physical upgrade, having the height and weight to play the position- plus he can get upfield at his size, making him an option to blitz from the 0 point and maintain 2 OL on him, collapsing the pocket from the middle. I can't fathom in the least of how our run/pass stopping/blocking will stay around the same ranks as last year. Top 15 LOS domination, bare minimum.
My vote goes to PACE because he has not reached his potential where the other guys are at it or past it. That's not to say Faneca or Jenkins are over the hill, just that Pace can get better.
