I keep hearing that. How bad are we talking here, worse than this year's? I heard this year's was the worse it'll get for the next few years.
If the fo doesnt view any of next year's qb prospects as franchise material, the option of trading for whoever ends the season on the bench in Cleveland is our best oportunity at finding a guy to step in and stabilize our qb situation.
Hey I agree. Though I believe many will rip Stafford for being a tad undersized -- 6'2" tops. I'd barf balls (in a good way) if Stafford goes to the jets. Maybe we could snag Southerland next year too? Anyway, I think if KC sucks and CP suck, Ainge makes a good safety net. I strongly doubt they will SUCK this season though.
We turn to Ainge, who has great potential. Tebow is a terrible pro prospect. Hopefully he can catch the ball, because he won't be an NFL QB.
IF,and only IF, both QB's get injured, I like Ainge (Chad will lead us though) and then next year, we trade up to get MATT STAFFORD from GEORGIA!!!!!!!!! This guy is the REAL DEAL folks! AWESOME talent!! IMHO the best, natural talent since Peyton available in the draft!
The focus of the CS and FO seems to be to strengthen the running game and the defense. They are de-emphasizing the team's need for any kind of a savior -- be it a QB who can throw the pumpkin 85 yards on a rope, or a shifty speed demon who can run a 4.1, or a 7 foot 4.3 forty WR who can jump over the cross bar. If the NYJs concentrate on running over people and punishing them, then we will get our opponents' attention in a good way. This rapt attention we can direct to the right while we smash through them from the left, or we can force them to play the run because we're averaging 6 yards a carry, and then we can pass it to our heart's content... even if it does take 3 or 4 seconds (perish the thought!). We shouldn't need a monster skill player to win games. If the NYJs are going to the SB, then they have to beat the hell out of people on a regular basis. 49 to 48 is not a good score. 17 to 14 is a good score -- you can't score on us and we can score on you. This is about winning football not Fantasy Football.
If KC sucks next year, Herm Edwards will likely be fired... Just saying...cause that's what I thought we were talking about!
How our QBs will line up at the start of the season. #1 Chad Pennington #2 Kellen Clemens #3 Brett Ratliff #4 Erik Ainge One of the biggest problems that KC had last year was learning the playbook, aparently it was too complicated for him. If that isn't corrected CP will win out over KC. If however they go to a 'painting by numbers' playbook, then KC has a chance. Not sure if we will carry 4 QBs, so it will be shootout between Ratliff and Ainge.
There is just no logic in starting Pennington and would be shocked if they did. It is a totally regressive, bad move back to a QB that was so bad he lost his job. And let's not get on the "he can excel with a good lin, running back and receivers" bit. Any QB can. Clemens was not statistically good lat year but he made some plays and kept us in games. The improvements in OL, TE and WR will help Kellen more than Pennington. We play Kellen and she what he can do. They are not going to play a lame duck QB that would be super difficult to resign and at the same time ditch Clemens. They have made the move. There is no going back. If Clemens fails, the team fails and we look for QB in FA or the draft after the season. But starting Pennington again would be just dumb.
I agree with the 1st part, i'm not looking for the God of QBs. But i don't want someone who needs to be nursed by the other 21 players out there either. I'd like a top 10 QB considering they are the ones making it to the super bowl every year. I know the importance of trench workers, but the man behind them must have the mentality to not only manage a game but be a leader, win, come from behind, make that JAG player better than he really is, and have the poise of champion. I don't need a Fantasy QB, although those guys also seem to be in the playoffs/SB too. I want a QB who has the intangibles and skill set, not the freakish athleticism- it gets you only so far. I believe in a strong running game, even though it seems to be neglected by the media- its still the staple of the great teams. The run opens up the pass- such a simple theory and yet can be ignored. I feel our running game will be fine this year, making the safeties honest and enable our QB to do better. I'm the last guy who wants 49-48, thats the Bengals and that is a truly losing franchise. An offense not scoring on us is key, duh- but an average of 22 pts/gm is ideal. With all the football i've seen, anyone who scores 3 TDs is 80% in a great position to win the game. We seem to have the other positions ready, its now time to see what the QBs are made of with a talented team around them, on paper. The search only continues when the QB is the one holding the team back, or keeping them idle- the QB does need to push the team over the top.
Possibly worse depending on who comes out and who decides to stay in college. Either way it is not going to be a good QB class and may only have 2 possible decent franchise QB's in it.
"Servicable" QB + a Beast Running game + A Top 5 Defense = A Chance to win a SB That said, Chad has proven he is that in the past. KC has yet to prove that. If they Both suck, we're done. If either are Servicable then we need the other 2 requirements to win.
This is the problem with our fan base. None of you realize we have to be patient and let Clemens develop. It may take two years for him to reach his potential. A good year from Clemens this year will still probably be more picks then td's. I'm sure 95% of qb's go through extreme growing pains. Players like Big Ben and Brady are the exception. Even Manning had a bad first year.
