http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft08/columns/story?columnist=chadiha_jeffri&id=3371140 I agree 100%. Gholston wont be allowed to "take plays off" as most people like to point out. This is the NFL this is your job and if you dont do your job you wont get paid. I for one am excited to watch Gholston tear apart Brady, Henne, and Edwards. Youthâ„¢
I think they are overplaying this whole doesn't show up for games thing too much. 14 sacks last year is still a ton.
Funny thing I noticed, the replays they showed during the draft of Gholston pwning a very talented Jake Long which he gets to see twice a year? I was like touche baby. Alls' I can say is that bastard better not hold out. He seemed somewhat snobbish about the whole thing.
regarding Gholston's effort: this is why Mangini requires character guys to be on the team, the kind that all of us have questioned from time to time, asking why does character outweigh talent? when it's time to motivate Gholston and tap into all of his potential, it won't only be the coaches, but also the players doing that. i believe Gholston will reach his ceiling with the Jets, more so than, say, if he had gone to the Raiders at #4.
This is what I've been saying as well. With Jim Herrmann and Bryan Cox, you've got two coaches who should definitely be able to motivate Gholston. Especially Cox. I'm very glad to have him around right now.
good point. Gholston will be encouraged by guys like Harris and Jenkins, and especially Coach Bryan Cox. Those 3 are the top on my list for getting in his head an making him understand that the harder he works the better he will become. The extra motivation will make him a top rusher in the NFL.
I am curious to see how he initially works with Harris. Harris being one of the best Michigan LB's of the decade, and Gholston being as such for Ohio State, I will be interesting to see how they work together initially. I expect over a short time they will get comfortable working together. but i just am curious to see how quickly they get over their innate hatred of each other....
that shit walks out the door the minute they get on the field together it'd not like they had to hit each other in college
You know what man excellent point. The other guys will get on his ass. No one likes to be the person who drags the team behind. The players, if not the coaches will light a fire under his ass.
I know Hobson and Nugent would make bets on the games, like wearing the other teams jersey for a week after the Michigan-OSU game. They are teammates now, they'll be fine.
Thank You. Jenkins is known for being vocal if things aren't going correctly on the field. I can see him grabbing Gholston by the helmet and getting in his face to get up the field and fuck someone up. This is the new Jets, we play hard and to the whistle, no matter what level of quality we put on the field.
I agree. That was the one thing I took from his interviews: that his attitude will mesh perfectly with mangini's
We are very likely to record a first sack in game 1 this year vs game 6............that was a telling story of last year
Are you really that slow? OK, I'll make this really easy for you. It was sarcasm. Nobody at ESPN ever says good things about the Jets or anything they do. I made a joke about any such praise being immediate grounds for dismissal. Get it now?
