The Patriots wanted Mayo, not Harvey or Rivers. Everyone knew the Bengals were taking Rivers at 9 once Ellis went 7 and if the Patriots wanted Rivers, they wouldn't have traded down below the Bengals. That's just common sense. Harvey just wasn't a good fit for the Patriots either. Defensive end is one of the Patriots biggest strengths and Harvey is not a 3-4 OLB. Mayo was their guy all along and they got him. The Lions wanted Mayo bad at 15 as well, so they couldn't have had him 10 picks later. BTW, Logan Mankins was also viewed as a reach at 32 and he was the 2nd best guard in football last year.

Crable has "very little athleticism"? That sounds like someone who has never seen him play or bothered to look up information on him. He's a very good athlete.

  2. Crable is a stout physical presence...but he's not a top athlete. Case in point: He was a 2 down player at michigan, despite his supposed pass rushing ability.

As for Rivers/Harvey. I think they wanted either/or..Why? They didnt foresee the Jags moving up to nab Harvey. I think they expected Cincy to take one of the 2, and they would snag the other. I could care less where Logan Mankins went in a draft 3 years ago...today, based on big board value...Mayo was a reach.

Believe it or not, not everything the precious Pats FO does turns to gold.

They wanted Mayo, reporters both local and national were saying so before the draft.
He was the top ILB on the board. They're all set at OLB/DE.

Why does anyone care who drafts more players? Every team does the draft differently.

    Not true at all...

At 6'5 242 he ran a 4.64 and did well or OK in everything...hell his entire value came from his motor, athleticism, and pass rushing ability...

And he wasn't a 2 down player at Michigan last year.

You two realize that Tannenbaum traded down in the 4th today right (we got a fifth from GB)? We ended up with the exact same number of draft picks as we went in with - 6. So they got the player they wanted and had the same number of late round draft picks. How did we give away anything?

Also right now we stand at 8 picks next year. 9 if DRob plays alot (which I doubt). And if Vilma meets incentives, or fourth rounders gets escalated to a 2nd/3rd (we give NO our 4th). That doesn't included any future trades.

Where did we lose draft picks again? Oh yeah, our third, we got a starting NT with it in Jenkins.

tell me who mosi tatupu is and what his position was, how about craig james, andre tippett?

i didnt think so and that is why your opinion doesnt matter, you are nothing more than a bandwagon jumper like 95% of the patsies fans. cause there was NOBODY watching them or talking about them or caring about them back when those guys played. and one of them is probably the greatest defensive player they ever had.

were the stands bleachers or seats in the old stadium? ill bet you dont know that one either.

How was Keller a reach? He was projected to go at 26. He was falling and it was obvious that the Giants would jump on him (making trading Shockey easier). Plus Seattle or NO could have jumped ahead of us in the 2nd. No way he made it to 36, considering he was the best receiver on the board. So again I ask, how was it a reach?

Honestly I think the pats have had a terrible draft thus far. they have had 2 solid picks, in Jerod Mayo, and in Shawn Crable out side of that, they have been so-so and the O'connel pick I am cheering because that is a completely wasted 3rd rounder, just to be a backup for 4-5 years before he moves on...

Funny I don't think it ruined the Jets day, in fact the guys at ESPN thought they had best day 1 of every team in the league without drafting McFadden. The Jets had more pressing needs than DMC and took care of it. The Raiders can have a team full of DMC's and it doesn't matter because they have nobody to block for him and nobody to throw the ball to him and a coach that is in way over his head. I'd argue that the Raiders hurt themselves by drafting him and ignoring needs. They'll be in teh top 10 again next year so I'm sure they can take the sexy name again next year too.

Agreed it was an epically stupid pick for the Raiders. They seem to have no clue how to rubuild a team.

Yes, consider the fact they just gave Fargas a new big contract, as well as still paying Rhodes and Jordan (who may get cut now....hmmm RB depth?). I don't understand the pick, but then again, they gave that Kelly guy 50 million.

Better a season to end in February than in mid October.

You were jumping for joy over a player not being drafted by the Jets? How obsessed are you?

they ripped up the field in their home park last year in the middle of the season after we beat them- by going after brady. that game is where the giants got the idea of how to beat them in the super bowl.

This is how I see it:

Jets had a choice of 1. trading down or 2. getting Gholston. (From the looks of NE-NO trade, I am very certain that Sean Payton called up the Jets brass for trade up as well). If Jets traded down, Patriots would have had same choice - and I am certain that Pats would have taken Gholston. So the situation is then reversed. Now, would that make you guys happy? I think not - rather, you guys would try to crucify Mangini and Tannenbaum for passing up on Gholston.
