What are the jets lacking on offense? A slot guy. Coles and Cotch are on the outside and the guy to go up the seams is missing in the offense. Picking up keller will allow us to move him around and create all sorts of mismatches. Imagine a play call where coles, cotch, backer, keller, and leon washington are all on the field at the same time? That is something opposing defenses will have trouble keeping tabs on. FUrthermore, on running downs, we can go with a heavy set of baker, bubba franks and watch thomas jones do his thing behind our revamped offensive line. Manginis mantra since becoming coach? Versatility. We not only picked up a versatile player in Gholston, but seriously added a dimension to our offense that not many teams employ; a te/wr with 4.5 speed in keller.

    From Si.com

The Jets attempt to add explosiveness to their offense by picking up Purdue speedster Dustin Keller. Though he is listed as a tight end, Keller is truly an oversized slot receiver who will be used to create mismatches in space. With Chris Baker installed at the base tight end position, the addition of Keller will allow the Jets to use more multiple tight end sets to generate big plays in the passing game. Some teams had Southern Cal's Fred Davis rated higher, but the Jets are willing to gamble that Keller's superior speed and athleticism gives him the chance to make a bigger impact as a pro.

I don't about this H-back stuff, but I don't there is any way the Jets are keeping Baker. You draft a Tightend in the first round to start. And like most of the pass catching TE's in the league, this guy should be expected to be on the field for 75percent of the plays.

I think they will use him like LJ smith who I like. Throw swing passes to him, bubble screens, split him out wide........ but I don't expect him to be splitting time with Baker. We have Bubba as a blocking TE that could catch a 7 yard pass every once in a while. Baker is pretty much IMO.
