Let's say the "worst case scenario" occurs, and WE CAN'T TRADE DOWN. I know this has been discussed in many threads, but I wanted to put a poll on it so its easier to see who people would want. I'm getting more and more nervous that this is getting to be very possible: 1) MIA-J. Long 2) STL-C. Long 3) ATL-G. Dorsey 4) OAK-D. McFadden 5) KC - V. Gholston
Considering the #2 and #3 guy I want is on your list, it's not so much a worst case scenario for me. 1. Chris Long 2. Matt Ryan 3. Jonathan Stewart
I'd take Ryan Clady. It's the highest impact pick the Jets could make for 2008 and it would be the move most likely to make them a consistent contender of the people not in the top 5.
I'm not so sure thats the best move. Clady cannot play RT, and is very similar to Brick playing wise(except less upside). He's very finesse and projects as an athletic pass protecting presence. We already have plenty of athletic types, and really need more of a physical presence on the right side of the O-line. I can buy Brandon Albert due to his impending size and obvious versatility...but not Clady. In this scenario I consider 1. Ryan- Based solely on value 2. Sed Ellis- again..a value pick. Although he doesnt project well to a 3-4 other than at nose 3. Keith Rivers 4. Brandon Albert
I go with McKelvin as he isn't projected to fall past 10th so it's not a real reach and adding another quality CB would help us try to slow own Fagboy and Meter Maid........ Having Revis, McKelvin and Rhodes in the secondary would give us one of the best young secondarys in the league. Throw that in with the additions of Pace and Jenkins we would have the makings of a pretty good defense.
Actually this scenario makes it the most likely one in which we could trade down. Why: -Baltimore picking at 8 clearly covets Matt Ryan -Carolina picking at 13 clearly covets Matt Ryan Jets could induce a bidding war, forcing Baltimore the trade up two spots by threatening to trade the sixth pick to Carolina who would than trump Baltimore and pick Ryan. If this scenario plays out and Ryan is sitting there when we are on the clock, the phone will be ringing big time, IMO...
I believe you're right on the button. We'll find someone to move up for him..andthat someone will vastly overpay.
I said Stewart, but really if I was GM the pick would be Limas Sweed. I love this kid, and think he is going to be a star in the right spot, oh by the way, I think we are the right spot... Stewart however to me appears to be the complete package, and is not a one year wonder like Mendenhall...
keith rivers he's been projected as high as 7 and would fit in nicely with harris for the next6-7 years at least
Again...drafting based on need or gimmick is not a good strategy. Additionally, there are ALOT of questions at to whether Harvey is fast/strong enough to play standing up.
absolutely ON POINT!!!!! rivers is the least of a reach and would fill a very very big need for this defense. less of a reach than cb, more of a need than cb. no way if things shake out this way in the top 5 and nobody wants to trade down and ryan isnt looked upon as a big time qb do you not look at rivers. it fits the mold of what the FO has already said about bpa and needs. he would be the perfect mix of bpa and need at that point.
Worst case... KEITH RIVERS,,who by trhe way is a F**kin beast,, Him and Harris together would be very scary..very scary in deed!
I'd choose Derrick Harvey because I think he could probably transition to a OLB that primarily rushes the QB, which is what we need most. I'd probably take Stewart as my 2nd choice. I wouldn't take a McKelvin that high because I don't think he will be that much better than which ever CB we could pick up in the 2nd round (Talib possibly?). Plus as many people have pointed out Revis was a better prospect, yet we picked him 14th. McKelvin might be worth the 6th if we needed his return abilities, but we definitely don't with Washington and Miller on our team. I also read somewhere that he has problems catching the ball consistently.
